Resting in God’s Peace

My soul is resting in God’s peace,
Without a doubt or fear;
The boisterous waves of trouble cease,
For Christ, my Lord, is near.

The Spirit poureth from on high,
A sanctifying tide,
And bathing in its streams of joy,
My soul is satisfied.

My hand in His, I will not fear,
How fierce may be the storm;
I’m sheltered in His love each day,
And kept from all alarm.

He drives my every doubt away,
He gives me childlike faith;
And so I take the yea or nay,
Just as my Father saith.

Resting in God’s sweet peace;

I’m resting in God’s sweet peace.

Jesus, Where’er Thy People Meet

Jesus, where’er Thy people meet,
There they behold Thy mercy seat;
Where’er they seek Thee Thou art found,
And every place is hallowed ground.
For Thou, within no walls confined,
Inhabitest the humble mind;
Such ever bring Thee, where they come,
And, going, take Thee to their home.

Dear Shepherd of Thy chosen few,
Thy former mercies here renew;
Here, to our waiting hearts, proclaim
The sweetness of Thy saving name.
Here may we prove the power of prayer
To strengthen faith and sweeten care;
To teach our faint desires to rise,
And bring all Heav’n before our eyes.

The Vesper Hour

In my heart a song is rising, holy peace of twilight calm,
As the Sabbath breathes its blessing, vesper hour, of hallowed calm.
Thought of God among us fallen, kindled by His breath divine,
Is the wondrous pow’r uniting myriad hearts at vesper shrine.

Vesper hour, the soul at leisure, climbs a sacred Pisgah height,
Views the Promised Land before us arched by God’s bright bow of light;
Earth and Heaven seem meeting, blending, in this richly freighted hour,
Wondrous is the presence round us, thrilling with a mystic power.

Clouds of incense sweet ascending, from heart altars to the Lord,
Prayers from loving, waiting servants, one before the throne of God;
Added sweetness to the Sabbath, comes with vesper hallowed time,
Like clear bells in silver chorus with their mellow distant chime.

Some glad day, ’neath flowery arches, of our heavenly Father’s love,
Through the gates into the city may we pass to joy above!
Here, we list the sweet-toned echo in our Father’s gracious Word;
There, we join the sounding anthem, “Alleluia! praise the Lord!”

Break Thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me,

Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord;
My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word!

Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord, to me, to me,
As Thou didst bless the bread by Galilee;
Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall;
And I shall find my peace, my all in all.

Thou art the bread of life, O Lord, to me,
Thy holy Word the truth that saveth me;
Give me to eat and live with Thee above;
Teach me to love Thy truth, for Thou art love.

O send Thy Spirit, Lord, now unto me,
That He may touch my eyes, and make me see:
Show me the truth concealed within Thy Word,
And in Thy Book revealed I see the Lord.

It’s Real

O how well do I remember how I doubted day by day,
For I did not know for certain that my sins were washed away.
When the Spirit tried to tell me, I would not the truth receive;
I endeavored to be happy and to make myself believe.

When the truth came close and searching, all my joys would disappear,
For I did not have the witness of the Spirit bright and clear.
If at times the coming judgment would appear before my mind,
O it made me so uneasy, for God’s smile I could not find.

When the Lord sent faithful servants who would dare to preach the truth,
How my heart did so condemn me as the Spirit gave reproof!
Satan said at once, “Twill ruin you now to confess your state;
Keep on working and professing, and you’ll enter Heaven’s gate.”

But alas I tired of living such a life of fear and doubt,
For I wanted God to give me something I would know about,
So the truth would make me happy and the light would clearly shine,
And the Spirit gave assurance a that I’m His and He is mine.

So I prayed to God in earnest, and not caring what folks said.
I was hungry for the blessing, my pour soul — I t must be fed.
Then at last by faith I touched Him and, like sparks from smitten steel,
Just so quick salvation reached me — O bless God, I know it’s real!

But it’s real, it’s real!
O I know it’s real
Praise God, the doubts are settled,
For I know, I know it’s real!

My God Is Real

There are some things I may not know,
There are some places I can’t go.
But I am sure of this one thing:
My God is real for I can feel Him deep within.

Some folks may doubt, some folks may scorn;
All can go on and leave me alone.
But as for me, I’ll take God’s part,
My God is real for I can feel Him in my heart!

I cannot tell just how you felt
When Jesus took all your sins away.
But since that day, yes, since that hour,
God has been real for I can feel His holy power!

My God is real, real in my soul;
My God is real for He has washed and made me whole!
His love for me is like pure gold,
Yes, God is real, for I can feel Him in my soul.

Heralds the corn we know.

Day after day to gain,
Till fully ripe all our sheaves may be
Gathered like golden grain.

Waiting, praying, striving on the way,
Something to do for the Master,

The wedding of the bride, united with the Groom,
We shall see the King when He comes.

Are you ready should the Savior call today?
Would Jesus say, “Well done” or “Go away”?
My home is for the pure, the vile can never stay,
We shall see the King when He comes.

Oh, my brother, are you ready for the call?
To crown your Savior king and Lord of all?
The kingdoms of this world shall soon before Him fall,
We shall see the King when He comes.

We shall see the King! O glory!
We shall see the King! Let us tell the gospel story!

And the glory of His resurrection share;

“Pilgrim, why not halt and rest along the path of life?
Quickly on your way you’ve pressed along the path of life.”
“Nay, but through His precious grace soon I’ll end this earthly race;
I have no abiding place along the path of life.”

“Pilgrim, why look you so glad along the path of life?”
“Nearing home, should I be sad along the path of life?
Where yon crystal towers shine I shall see my King divine,
And eternal bliss be mine beyond this path of life.”

Only to know that the path I tread
Is the path marked out for me;
That the way, though thorny, rough and steep,
Will lead me nearer to Thee!

Blessed Redeemer, to Thee!
Only to know that the path I tread
Is bringing me nearer to Thee!

Only to know that the cross I see
Is the cross of Calvary,
On which the world’s Redeemer died,
To purchase life for me!

Only to know that Thy death on the cross
Brings light and life to me.

Is the one picked out for me,
By the gentle hands of my Saviour and Lord;

Father’s Day


Only A Dad

Only a dad, with and tired face,
Coming home from the daily race,
Glad in his heart that his own rejoice
To see him come and hear his voice.

Only a dad with a brood of four,
One of ten million men or more
Plodding along in the daily strife,
Bearing the whips and scorns of life
With never a whimper of pain or hate
For the sake of those who at home await.

Only a dad, neither rich nor proud,
Merely one of the surging crowd,
Toiling, striving from day to day,
Facing whatever may come his way;
Strong whenever the harsh condemn
And bearing it all for love of them.

Only a dad, but he gave his all
To smooth the way for his children small,
Doing with courage brave and grim
The deeds that his father did for him;
These are the lines that for him I pen —
Only a dad, but the best of men.

Never Alone

I’ve seen the lightning flashing, I’ve heard the thunder roll.
I’ve felt sin’s breakers dashing, which almost conquered my soul.
I’ve heard the voice of my Savior, bidding me still to fight on.
He promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone!

The world’s fierce winds are blowing, temptation sharp and keen.
I have a peace in knowing my Savior stands between—
He stands to shield me from danger when my friends are all gone.
He promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone!

When in affliction’s valley I tread the road of care,
My Savior helps me carry the cross so heavy to bear;
Though all around me is darkness, earthly joys all flown;
My Savior whispers His promise, never to leave me alone!

He died on Calvary’s mountain, for me they piercèd His side.
For me He opened that fountain, the crimson, cleansing tide.
For me He waiteth in glory, seated upon His throne.

He Who Would Valiant Be

He who would valiant be ’gainst all disaster,
Let him in constancy follow the Master.
There’s no discouragement shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent to be a pilgrim.

Who so beset him round with dismal stories
Do but themselves confound — his strength the more is.
No foes shall stay his might; though he with giants fight,
He will make good his right to be a pilgrim.

Since, Lord, Thou dost defend us with Thy Spirit,
We know we at the end, shall life inherit.
Then fancies flee away! I’ll fear not what men say,
I’ll labor night and day to be a pilgrim.

If our scanty measure were used,
How poor were the gifts of the Lord;
If our cups of thought and our pitchers of prayer
Were all that His love could afford.

But - above all our stammering tongues
Can voice of our deepest desire,
Abundant above all the pitiful good
To which our small minds can aspire;

Exceeding abundant above
The reach of our groveling thought;
So great is the fulness of knowledge and grace
His power to usward hath wrought.
