Step by Step

When the shadows thickly gather,
Clouding all thy onward way,
Think not what shall be tomorrow;
Seek God’s help just for today.

Should the coming days bring burdens,
Or be fraught with grief or care,
Trust Him in the hour of trial,
He will make thee strong to bear.

Daily strength He ever giveth,
For each day rich grace bestows;
And each morrow, as it dawneth,
Still His lovingkindness shows.

Then why should we shrink or falter
When the onward path looks dim,
Knowing light will never fail us
While we walk by faith with Him?

Step by step He leads me onward,
Step by step the way reveals;
But what in the future lieth,
In His mercy He conceals.

I With Thee Would Begin

I with Thee would begin, O my Savior so dear,

As my earnest resolve I renew
To be and remain Thine forever.

Which alone doth salvation bestow;
Fold me close to Thy breast where found joy all who came,

Let Thy Word all divine be my lamp in whose light
I may constantly keep to Thy way;
And each day wouldst Thou cleanse me anew, make me white
In the blood shed for me on that day

With Memory to guard the rear and Faith to lead the van,

For he shall lose his power when I fully trust in Thine.

Come, Come, Ye Saints

Come, come, ye saints, no toil nor labor fear; but with joy, wend your way.
Though hard to you this journey may appear, grace shall be as your day.
’Tis better far for us to strive our useless cares from us to drive;
Do this, and joy your hearts will swell — All is well! All is well!

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard? ’Tis not so, all is right.
Why should we think to earn a great reward, if we now shun the fight?
Gird up your loins; fresh courage take; our God will never us forsake,
And soon we’ll have this tale to tell — All is well! All is well!

We’ll find the place which God for us prepared, in His house full of light,
Where none shall come to hurt or make afraid; there the saints will shine bright.
We’ll make the air with music ring, shout praises to our God and King;
Above the rest these words we’ll tell — All is well! All is well!

And should we die before our journey’s through, happy day! All is well!
We then are free from toil and sorrow, too; with the just we shall dwell!
But if our lives are spared again to see the saints their rest obtain,

To illuminate the true.

What Would We Do Without The Clouds?

God is gracious, He sends the rain;
For His glory, we should not complain;
What He sends is always best,
Stormy clouds and all the rest.

Verdant meadows, fruits and flow’rs,
Gather beauty from the falling show’rs;
Clouds are sailboats from above,
Laden with the gifts of love.

Cloudless sky makes barren land;
Parched and thirsty is the desert sand;
So would life be barren, too,
If there were no clouds for you.

What would we do without the clouds?
The clouds bring rain,
Scattering show’rs of blessing over hill and plain,
Bringing to us the harvest of the golden grain;
What would we do without the clouds?
The clouds bring rain.

His Will Be Done

“His Will Be Done,”
We say with sighs and trembling,
Expecting trial, bitter loss and tears.
And then how doth He answer us?

With blessings,
And sweet rebuking of our faithless fears.
God's Will is peace and plenty
And the power to be,
And have the best that He can give;
A mind to serve Him, a heart to love,
And faith to die and the strength to live.

It means for us all good,
All grace, all glory;
His Kingdom coming and on Earth begun.
Why should we fear to say,
“His Will, His righteous,
His tender, loving, joyous Will be done!”

A Vessel God Can Use

God is not looking for someone
talented to use,
but a willing broken vessel
is the one he will choose.

God is not looking for someone
who thinks they can do the job,
but for someone who knows they can't
so from God's glory will not rob.

God chooses the things
that the world does despise,
because His ways are much higher
and much more wise.

God is looking for someone
who is willing to empty their self of pride
to rely on Him alone for guidance
and in His word abide.

Let the World Their Virtue Boast

Let the world their virtue boast, their works of righteousness,
I, a wretch undone and lost, am freely saved by grace;
Other title I disclaim; this, only this, is all my plea —
I the chief of sinners am, but Jesus died for me.

I, like Gideon’s fleece, am found unwatered still, and dry,
While the dew on all around, falls plenteous from the sky;
Yet my Lord I cannot blame, the Savior’s grace for all is free —
I the chief of sinners am, but Jesus died for me.

Surely He will lift me up, for I of Him have need;
I cannot give up my hope, though I am cold and dead;
To bring fire on earth He came, O that it now might kindled be —

Not Half Has Ever Been Told

I have read of a beautiful city,
Far away in the kingdom of God;
I have read how its walls are of jasper,
How its streets are all golden and broad;
In the midst of the street is life’s river,
Clear as crystal and pure to behold;

I have read of bright mansions in Heaven,
Which the Savior has gone to prepare;
And the saints who on earth have been faithful,
Rest forever with Christ over there;

That vile sinners may ask and receive

If when asking they only believe.

Redeemed, How I Love To Proclaim It!

Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it!
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed through His infinite mercy,
His child and forever I am.

Redeemed, and so happy in Jesus,

I know that the light of His presence
With me doth continually dwell.

I think of my blessed Redeemer,

My Sins Are Gone

You ask why I am happy so I’ll just tell you why,

And when I meet the scoffers who ask me where they are,

’Twas at the old-time altar where God came in my heart

They’re underneath the blood on the cross of Calvary,
As far removed as darkness is from dawn;
In the sea of God’s forgetfulness, that’s good enough for me,
“Praise God, my sins are gone.”

Unanswered Yet

Unanswered yet?
The prayers your lips have pleaded
In agony of heart these many years?
Does faith begin to fail, is hope departing,
And think you all in vain those falling tears?
Say not the Father hath not heard your prayer:
You shall have your desire, sometime, somewhere.

Unanswered yet?
Though when you first presented
This one petition at the Father’s throne,
It seemed you could not wait the time of asking,
So urgent was your heart to make it known.
Though years have passed since then, do not despair;
The Lord will answer you, sometime, somewhere.

Unanswered yet?
Nay, do not say ungranted;
Perhaps your part is not yet wholly done;
The work began when first your prayer was uttered,
And God will finish what He has begun.
If you will keep the incense burning there,
His glory you shall see, sometime somewhere.

Unanswered yet?
Faith cannot be unanswered;
Her feet were firmly planted on the Rock;
Amid the wildest storm prayer stands undaunted,
Nor quail before the loudest thunder shock.
She knows Omnipotence has heard her prayer,
And cries, “It shall be done,” sometime, somewhere.
