Passover - redemption from hades



The Passover in Egypt where Israel was in bondage is a pattern of what our Lord and Savior would do.
The firstborn son (Israel) saved from the bondage of death (Egypt) by the blood of the lamb.
Their chains of bondage were broken, they were set free (redeemed) from death (the grave) by the blood of the Passover lamb.


In the NT who is the son called out of Egypt?
Who is the Passover lamb that shed blood?
Who is the firstborn?
Who redeems us from the grave?



It was all a pattern of what our Lord and Savior would do.

John 5​

(39) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.​

1 Corinthians 15
(55) O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

And when you tie in the next verse .........

(56) The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

........... one could say "Sin has no sting for me, the law has no power to bind me."



But it was not the first time this pattern was practiced.
Isaac, called firstborn, was saved from death by the blood of a slain ram.

These patterns in scripture remind me of those push pin boards in a detective's squad room that has threads connecting to all the pins that show the core that connects them all, like a tapestry in which you cannot see the final image until all the threads are sewn together.
And that image is Christ, the express image of God. (Hebrew 1:3)

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love

I like the connection between Christ being our Passover, the Passover being a sacrifice, and taking Communion being partaking of the table of the Lord. A sacrifice of bread and wine (Melchizedek) which is the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 2:15 KJV — And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
If, as you say, Egypt was a type of the grave for the Israelites, and if it was directly applicable to Jesus when his parents had taken him to Egypt, then isn't it doubly applicable when Christ himself is resurrected?

I mentioned that in my OP that Christ fulfilled that pattern as He did all the others.

If, as you say, Egypt was a type of the grave for the Israelites,

I'm not saying it (grave/death) would be the only type Egypt could reflect, but in the instance of what the Passover lamb's blood saved them from certainly fits since the blood of the Lamb and resurrection was crucial for release from the grave.

Yep, the resurrection is the tie-in that fits the pattern of both the binding of Isaac (called firstborn) on the altar of sacrifice and the bondage of Israel (called firstborn) in Egypt that were saved from death.
Both were released from death/grave by the blood of a lamb/ram.

I don't have the info on hand, but I have read a few scholars that make the case that the time of year Isaac was bound on the altar to be sacrificed corresponds with the date of Passover.

Correct. Even Tradito, whatever he is doing these days, saw the obvious foreshadowing all over the "Old Testament".

The sacrifice is to be without spot or blemish.
Their iniquity (sin) is placed on one goat, and the other is freed.
Stand still and see the salvation of the LORD.
Eat from the tree of life and live, eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (the Law) and die.
The angel of death will pass over the house who is covered by the blood of the lamb.
Water baptism, the ceremonial cleansing of the priests.

And on and on and on.
