You missed it, shill. The "Virgin" Mary, i.e., Rome's title implies/asserts that she was always a virgin.

She was not, after the Lord Jesus Christ was born.

And it was not a "virgin birth"-it was a normal, human birth.

There was a virgin conception.

1.Made up. Asserting that Mary was perpetually sinless, and perpetually a virgin(as merely one example), as the RCO officially teaches(the documentation of this is easily attainable) is not merely extra-biblical(tradition), it contradicts the Holy Bible. No amount of "spin", or "mental gymnastics", or "redefining biblical words" can justify such doctrine(teachings)-the "interpretation" of such scriptural passages is so simple that one not have an "MBA from heaven" to understand their plain sense meaning. And....

Given that the icon in the OP was painted in the mid 2nd-century, your question about something that would not occur for another fourteen-hundred years seems a bit out of place.

Not in the slightest bit. The Holy Orthodox venerate the Mother of God, but they don't emphasize her categorically above all other saints like the Holy Catholic Church does. This changed after the Reformation, and so it is only reasonable to conclude that Peter thought it best to shine Mary's light more brightly than he had before because of, in some way, the Reformation. There's no difference between the Orthodox and the HCC regarding Mary unless you know the answer to this---and I don't know the answer, but I am fiercely curious to know why.

And in your verse there, do you notice that Jesus says "behold your mother", "behold your son" to the Apostle John? He would not have done that if she had other children.
