Trump White House Defends Misleading DHS Propaganda Because They Are ‘Banger Memes’

Anti-immigration propaganda put forth by the DHS used mislabeled and altered footage to hype its immigration crackdown. A Trump spox called them banger memes.

The Department of Homeland Security has repeatedly posted misleading, mislabeled, and in at least one case digitally altered footage to promote President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda — an aggressive messaging strategy defended by the White House as engaging “banger memes,” according to a detailed Washington Post investigation published this week.​

The Post identified at least six DHS-produced videos over the last three months that misrepresented where and when scenes were filmed. The most striking example was an August montage touting DHS’s supposed success in securing Washington, D.C. It featured dramatic clips of federal agents battling what one official called a “battle for the soul of our nation,” but the footage was neither recent nor from the nation’s capital. Instead, significant portions were shot months earlier in Los Angeles, West Palm Beach, and even off the coast of Nantucket, roughly 400 miles from Washington.​

A DHS spokesperson did not dispute the inaccuracies. The White House also declined to offer corrections; instead, spokesperson Abigail Jackson said the administration would continue highlighting its successes via “engaging content and banger memes,” the Post reported.​

The investigation found a broader pattern of deceptive editing. In one case, footage promoted as showing “Antifa terrorists” attacking federal facilities in Portland was actually filmed outside an ICE building in Broadview, Illinois — 1,700 miles away. The video also cropped out the watermark of the journalist who recorded it. Another DHS clip boasting about a federal surge into Memphis used images from the same Illinois facility, with no indication that the visuals were recorded in a different state.​

In several instances, DHS also misrepresented the depicted time period. A video promoting Trump’s border policies showed nighttime crossings in Arizona and a smuggling boat at sea, claiming both scenes underscored the failures of earlier administrations. But the Post determined both events occurred in 2019 — during Trump’s own first term.​

Shocking video shows a chaotic scene on a quiet Chicago street as Border Patrol agents in tactical gear drag a 67-year-old man from his car while children in Halloween costumes look on in horror.​

According to his running club, the man, who is a U.S. citizen, was returning from a team run when agents pulled him out of his vehicle, tackled him to the ground and kneeled on top of him, allegedly breaking six ribs and causing internal bleeding.​

The incident unfolded Saturday in the city’s Old Irving Park neighborhood, where residents say the agents disrupted a children’s Halloween parade amid an immigration enforcement operation.​

In a statement shared on Instagram, the Chicago-based DWRunning clubidentified the victim as one of their athletes, although it did not name him.​

“One of our athletes was on his way home from a team long run yesterday and as he turned onto his block, found that Border Control had the road blocked,” the club wrote.​

“The agents threatened to break his window if he didn’t move his car. Before he could act, they pulled him out of his car, knelt on his back, and subdued him, though he never resisted. They broke six of his ribs and caused internal bleeding.”​

The club condemned the incident, saying: “This really is happening in our country with frightening frequency. It’s terrifying and it has to stop. We must keep sharing these stories, calling out these injustices and standing up for those who can’t stand up for themselves.”​

Trump has mobilized thousands of National Guard members in D.C., Los Angeles and Memphis, with deployments to Chicago and Portland, Oregon, delayed by court decisions. He has claimed unfettered authority to deploy military personnel onto American soil, including active duty troops, which by law are prohibited from performing law enforcement duties except in extreme cases or if the president invokes the Insurrection Act. . . .

Sounds like they didn't want to show the clips because it would destroy their narrative of "Look! They're abusing their authority and being tyrants!"
