homeschooling lead to social deficiency?

This happens with children outside of homeschooling as well Nori. My children were not homeschooled, but have always been good communicators with adults as well as others of their own age. This is because their father and I have never 'babied' them, teaching them how to socialise with others no matter the environment they are in, as well as the perhaps 'inherited' ability to do this, as I was the same.
People always believe my son and daughter to be at least 3-5 years ahead of their age. They both have attended public schools, and even though they are surrounded by some very socially inept individuals, have classmates who are 'druggies' and so forth, they have been taught from a young age, that there are choices that need to be made in life.
I thank God that even when we were not Christians, we had the good sense to bring our children up knowing the right choices.
The world and all of its lures and sins is still there to be faced...its how the child is raised by their parents, and the child's attitudes that determine the paths they will take. Not necessarily whether they were home or public or private schooled.
Just my humble opinion based on our own situation.

I wasn't blaming my shyness on being in public school or my daughter's outgoing nature strictly on homeschooling. I was just showing the difference in our personalities.

I think the idea of it leading to social deficiency was invented by somebody who either didn't understand homeschooling or was opposed to it.

None of them had any trouble at all adjusting to college or university life.

Why do you even care about what other people think? If you believe homeschooling is the right option for your kids, than it is the right option. You don't need to justify this decision to anybody!

Your number one reason is the one I hate to hear a parent say. Why did you have kids if you feel that you need a break from your kids every day? And, as to your number two reason, when do your tax dollars ever work directly for your family? You can homeschool for little or no money. There are free curriculae all over the net. And, it's not hard to make your own curriculum, especially for the early grades.

Why do you want a break from your own kids every day? That sounds a bit selfish. Don't you enjoy being around your own kids? If not, maybe you aren't raising them in a proper, Biblical fashion.

My tax dollars pay for many things I do not use. I don't use public transportation because the benefit I would derive from that service is of a lesser value than that which I receive from maintaining and using my own vehicle, even though I must pay for both. Nor would I take children to a public park which is not safely maintained and is used by junkies and whores as a haunt, even though my tax dollars pay for it.

In many cases, something is important enough to pay for even though my tax dollars have been spent on a "free" alternative.

My kids were unplanned but I love them and enjoy being with them. But it's not wrong to have some "adult time" each day. It's perfectly normal and OK.

Conservative and California do not go together. :chuckle: That's one of the biggest reasons I left six years ago.

Find a conservative area where I can go surfing and work on video games and I'm selling my house and moving, otherwise I'm stuck in this liberal enclave. I attended public school with Inner City kids who were bussed into the region. I experienced racism from the other side, and learned quicly that the way you gain respect in an argument is to stand your ground to the end if it meant violence (and in some cases it came down to violence).

To this day when I'm in a verbal confrontation with somebody, my immediate reaction is that the argument will get physical. Who know's perhaps I have psycological problems but I sill point to my schoollife for being this way.

My kids are going the Homeschool route with plenty of activities to "Socialize" them amongst their peers. I'm not handing my children over to those liberal wackos in the public school system.

There is a difference between having some "adult time" and wanting a break from your kids. And, to be honest, the only person besides you that I've ever heard say that they wanted a break from their kids is my sister, L, who ended up losing custody of three of her four kids because her ex-husband's mother could provide them with a better home. Her other kids is basically a juvenile delinquent because he's never had a steady father figure in his life.
