Hillary Endorses Net Neutrality - Federal Control of the Internet and the Taking Do

There is a profitable and good reason why the GOP turns a blind eye to monopolies. Reason: they are NOT monopolies.
Verizon certainly is the IP monopoly where I live. As I have no other options. And ComCast has been the cable monopoly for decades in the city nearby. Which is why they use their IP services to choke off any possible competition.
They are examples of free enterprise that create jobs in America.
So are prostitution, child pornography and the production and selling of methamphetamine, but that doesn't mean they should be legal.

aikido, what's with your new right winger schtick or whatever you are doing. :AMR:
Right wingers are those who make sure there are separations between two or more things that need to be dissociated from each other. Liberalism is being able to tear down barriers that should never have been there in the first place.

I just do what I do and believe what I believe. If you judge my thoughts and feelings as "right winger schtick" so be it.

Verizon's customers will be the ultimate decider.

Verizon doesn't care what I want, because they know I can't go to another internet provider. I tried writing to them, but they just ignore me. And I tried calling them, but of course the person who answered the phone said they knew nothing about anything related to the issue. The consumer has no choice but to give up internet access, or accept whatever Verizon does, and they know it. And since having internet access these days is becoming more and more essential to function in modern society, that option of going without it is becoming more and more a hardship. This creates what's call a 'captive market'. And captive markets are not free markets. Captive markets do not work like free markets. They become exploitive even when there are more than one business for people to choose from.

In that past, businesses that operated in such essential captive markets were called 'pubic utilities'. And they were governed by the state because it was understood that they were de-facto monopolies, and that monopolies are inherently exploitive. Internet access is becoming a similar type of captive market, which is why we are seeing these large IP providers exploiting the public's need of their services. They are becoming de-facto monopolies, and in many cases, actual monopolies as well. And this is why we need to classify them as public utilities and oversee them to keep them from exploiting the public's need for their services.

Get connected with those who represent you in Washington. If you don't attend a meeting or at least leave a message on their office phone you won't have a dog in the fight.

Verizon gave more money to Obama for re-election than to The Other Guy. So you statists here should not be complaining too loudly...Verizon simply supported the guy you voted for. Only now you realize he's out to screw you, too. Just like we tried to warn you in '07.

Pain is so often the only teacher people will listen to. Enjoy the lesson.

I think you're just being a willfully idiotic. And since most of the willful idiots here on TOL call themselves "right wingers" I can see why kmoney made the observation.

Not being able to recognize the need for the rule of law in any healthy, secure, and functional society of human beings is idiotic. And not being able to recognize the need for it in commerce is equally idiotic. So as long as you want to keep insisting that there should be no governance of commerce via the rule of law, you are being idiotic. And since I don't believe you are incapable of understanding why this is idiotic (as some TOL posters are), I must assume you are being willfully idiotic, for some inexplicable reason.

This, of course, has nothing to do with the subject of the thread, and is just a silly attempt at derailing it.

Obama appointed the head of the FCC who refused to regulate IPs as a public utilities.

After that guy took his bribe money and ran away, there was a long law suit that kept net neutrality in place while litigation was under way. But consumers lost the suit, and the IP conglomerates immediately began choking web sites and extorting money from them. And the public is still seeking government intervention to put a stop to it.

And yes, Obama is a hypocrite in this instance since he's the one who appointed the clown that caused this whole mess in the first place, and now he's claiming to be in favor of net neutrality. As always, he's done one thing while he says another.

No. Just my subtle (that is, over your head, per usual) way of pointing out what a hypocrite YOU are for whining about the actions of a guy that were perfectly predictable back in '07. You were warned. You just didn't listen. Now you will, to your cost, and not a thing you can do about it. So on this issue, the only difference now between you and me is, I'm not even remotely surprised.

You continue to operate under the false belief that NN means what they've told you it means. NN is used by them in the same way relocation was used by the SS -- it's a euphemism that means something VERY different than what the name implies. Until you see that for what it is, you will continue to be a fool. It won't matter either way because nothing can stop it, but better an informed fool than an deceived one.

In any case, you and those like you will bear part of the blame.

I don't think you've shown this to be the case.

No, but in his twisted mind he imagines that this is the reality. The evil liberal demons are hiding behind every corner, just waiting to attack the poor, innocent, megacorps who only want to create jobs for us and make us all rich … or some similarly insane delusion.

Explain the dancing, singing leftist Muslim. Otherwise, I don't care what you think.

Oh, I see. Your evidence that NN is a dirty leftist scheme comparable to what the Nazis did is that a Democrat likes it. I'm convinced now.
