You had a rough life. The heat pump came with the house. when I moved here I thought I would die in a year from hepatitis C. Then I was cured by a new drug after 12 years of severe illness. In that time I lost my husband and the better part if middle-age. Not too happy about it
You had a rough life.
Is it affordable even in wealthy neighborhood like Naples?
Come to the Keys. I use a blanket 2 or 3 days a year.
You live in the Florida Keys? Key West homes are over a million dollars, even a small house. I never thought you were so rich.
My cousin rents in the Keys, he's a roofer so he's not rich.

Do you have a boat?
My house up here in Alabama has a heat pump and setting at 82 degrees, it feels as cold as my refrigerator. The only way to get it to put out heat is set it very high and get the electric coils to come on.
I had it checked and it does have a slow leak, but I had it charged up last week. They added that free on
The only way to get the house warmed up is to set it very high and then turn it down until it gets low comfortable, then set it high again. It is like heating the house with electric heat.
This year the electric bill is going to be around $500 a month. After Christmas. I am going down to Florida where I have gas heat and just cook the place, Hope on one complains?
I want to sell the big ole house this spring and sell the condo, then buy something in Naples at any price where I can live out my last years warm, little winter, I hate winter and always did hate it, but it never made me so ill before.
If I had to be out in New York weather, I'd be dead in ten minutes!
When I was a young child, I believe Heaven was a place without any winter!:mmph:

and lucky in many ways. It is old age that scares me more than death. Any saved person should not fear death. What is scary is living like those old ladies who are in wheelchairs shaking and addle-minded but don't die.
Only unbelievers fear death.
Or move into a senior community.Nothing grows out there so, no lawn work. I could buy a house? Just a small one would do for me.
Amen, I am looking forward to my death day. It will be sweet!
:cigar:
I don't even smoke
So forget those, I didn't realize the boat slip was only 35' and the boat is 45'.

Just build a dock off the island and put in some solar panels and you're all set.
Your T-stat is shot. Some good ones only cost 40 and can be snapped in by the average person.
In the meanwhile, use other 220V sources. For ex., put a metal utensil in the door of your conventional oven and set it on low, which is usually 170, and after several hours you have nice smooth heat for that area, at half the price of 110V outlets. I have also used metal in an oven like that as a heat 'sink' (absorb and hold) but make sure it is convenient to remove when you need to do real backing. (I used a 10 lb weightlift).
I have a 30 yr old heat pump in a damp forest all winter and it is great. However, as a category, heat pumps have many, many moving parts, which is always a downside. Radiant propane heat is best because there are no moving parts (at your house!) to supply it, and radiant is better than forced because of the moving parts that are needed to push air. Except that it can't be filtered.
