Protesters target Trump buildings in massive street rallies

(CNN)For many Americans across the country, Donald Trump's victory is an outcome they simply refuse to accept.
"Not my president," protesters chanted in rallies coast to coast.

Tens of thousands filled the streets in at least 25 US cities overnight -- with demonstrations outside Trump's properties.

While most protesters were peaceful, dozens were arrested. At least three officers were wounded. And about 40 fires were set in one California city.
Here's a snapshot of the rallies across the nation:

NY: Thousands march outside Trump's home
On Thursday afternoon, more than 200 anti-Trump protesters marched from the Union Square area to Washington Square Park in Manhattan.
Some carried signs with messages such as, "White men stop ruining everything." They chanted, "Trump and Pence make no sense."

Overnight, about 5,000 people protested the real estate mogul's victory outside Trump Tower, authorities estimated. They included pop star Lady Gaga, a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter.

Their concerns ranged from policies, such as Trump's proposed plan to build a wall along the US-Mexican border, to the polarizing tenor of his campaign that they say stoked xenophobic fears.

"I came out here to let go of a lot of fear that was sparked as soon as I saw the results," protester Nick Powers said in New York. He said he feared Trump will support stronger stop-and-frisk policies that would put many people in prison. Powers said he was also worried that Trump's victory would embolden sexist views.

At least 15 protesters at Trump Tower were arrested Wednesday night for disorderly conduct, New York police said.

Oakland, California: 40 fires started
About 7,000 demonstrators filled streets in Oakland on Wednesday night -- and some turned violent.
Protesters hurled Molotov cocktails, rocks and fireworks at police. Three officers were injured, police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

Trash fires smoldered on a highway, and a downtown business was set ablaze. By Thursday morning, emergency workers extinguished about 40 fires.
"Throughout the evening, the large group splintered into smaller groups that began vandalizing numerous businesses in the downtown area," Oakland police said.

At least 30 people were arrested and 11 citations were issued for vandalism, assaulting officers, unlawful assembly, failure to disperse and possession of a firearm.
Three police cars from nearby Pleasanton were damaged, officials said.

A few miles away at Berkeley High School, about 1,500 students walked out of classes Wednesday. In San Francisco, more than 1,000 students across the city walked out of the school and headed to the Civic Center to engage in a peaceful protest, according to a tweet from the San Francisco Unified School District.

"People are furious, not just at the results of the election but the rhetoric of Donald Trump," said Ahmed Kanna, an organizer for Social Alternative at Berkeley.

Chicago: 'We're taking many steps back'

In Chicago, activists marched down Lake Shore Drive -- an eight-lane expressway along Lake Michigan -- toward the Windy City's Trump Tower.
"I still can't believe I have to protest for civil rights," one sign read.
CNN's Ryan Young, who saw a few thousand people there, said many chanted vulgarities toward the President-elect.
"As a nation we thought we had come so far, but it seems like we're taking many steps back," one woman said. "We want to come together to change that."

In Omaha, Nebraska, authorities deployed pepper balls on a crowd of more than 200 people protesting Trump's election after they defied police orders to stay out of the streets.

Los Angeles: Trump effigy torched
Dozens of high school and college students staged rallies near the USC and UCLA campuses.
Overnight, more than 1,000 protesters rallied outside Los Angeles City Hall, including many young Latinos.

They chanted, "I will not live in fear," "Fight back, stand up" and "¡Si se puede!" (Spanish for "Yes, it can be done").

Protesters also set on fire a piñata depicting the head of the President-elect.(let them head right back to mexico, if they dont like it)

Several protesters said they feared that family or friends might be deported once Trump takes office.
Brooklyn White, an 18-year-old who voted for Clinton, held a sign that said, "Hate won't win."
"We can't let it stop us," she said. "If he's the president, then fine. But if Donald Trump is going to be it, then he has to listen."
As many as 3,000 people joined Wednesday's demonstrations in the city, and 28 people were arrested for running into the 101 Freeway, said Los Angeles police spokeswoman Liliana Preciado. There was some property damage, but it's too early to know the exact extent, she said.
Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a statement, "I understand that the results of Tuesday's election are painful for many of us, and this kind of engagement can be a meaningful part of the healing we need after such a long and divisive campaign.
"But walking and throwing objects onto freeways is dangerous for pedestrians and drivers -- and it puts a heavy burden on people just trying make it home to their families or get to work safely."

Washington: 'America has failed'

Meanwhile, protesters in Washington chanted, "No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA," as they marched downtown to the Trump International Hotel.
Elsewhere in the nation's capital, an illuminated sign proclaimed that the US is "Better Than Bigotry."

"Everything that has been built up has been destroyed," protester Brian Barto told CNN affiliate WJLA-TV. "America has failed (minorities)." (whats the goal, white slavery, death to the white?)

Supporters: Trump an 'agent of change'

Trump supporters also rallied, showing their elation outside his current and future homes -- New York's Trump Tower and the White House.

Nicholas Elliot, a Georgetown University student, compared Trump's victory to the United Kingdom's Brexit vote to leave the European Union.
"I feel pretty good. A year-and-a-half process has ended, and it ended my way," the Texan told WJLA.
J.D. Vance, author of the book "Hillbilly Elegy," said Trump supporters in middle America voted for him because so few people -- including Clinton or her supporters -- had paid attention to their plight.

They see Trump as an agent of change and (an) agent of protest against folks who they feel have really failed in government," Vance said.
Now comes the hard part: finding middle ground, CNN's Marc Preston said.
"All that anger that has been contained outside of Washington, D.C., and New York that we don't see in middle America ... everyone's starting to see it," Preston said. "There is a lot of healing that has got to happen."

A lot of growing up is what needs to happen and a lot of jail time.

These nuts are what people need to be afraid of.

He said he feared Trump will support stronger stop-and-frisk policies that would put many people in prison.

Stop-and-frisk only "puts people in prison" if you did something illegal, and got caught, when stopped-and-frisked.
What that guy just said was that he'd prefer for those people to get away with their crimes, and continue to victimize his neighbors.

‘Die Whites Die’: Anti-Trump Rioters Vandalize NOLA Monuments

14925758_1241461129244733_8189955019371228621_n-640x480.jpg

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – What started as a protest against President-Elect Donald Trump soon turned to violent riots where one of New Orleans’ most famous monuments was covered in graffiti and glass windows were shattered out of a nearby bank.

Hundreds showed up to denounce the election of Trump–but despite media reports of a peaceful gathering, the crowd grew increasingly hostile and violent, according to Breitbart Texas sources on the ground.

Students holding signs reading “End white supremacy” originally gathered on the steps of the Lee Circle monument before the demonstrations turned destructive.

Lee Circle was fully covered in graffiti with phrases like “Black Power” and “Dismantle White Supremacy”.

Later, an effigy of Trump was burned while glass windows at a nearby bank were shattered.

Other phrases like “No Trump, no KKK” were used to vandalize surrounding areas, as well as the threatening phrase “Die whites die” and “F*ck Trump”.

Now, New Orleans city workers are spending the day attempting to remove the vandalism across the city.

A source close to Breitbart Texas said a group of rioters went back late in the night to Lee Circle and the surrounding area to do more damage, saying that was when some of the behavior grew out of control.

Protests by liberal students and the social justice-wing of the Democratic Party began early yesterday, just a day after Trump’s victory over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Trump, in a gracious speech to supporters, asked that the country come together and heal, along with President Obama, who mirrored Trump’s lead on the issue.

This isnt racist at all...

Flags burning, Trump effigies hanging in the streets of America’s major cities

WARNING: Strong language

FLAGS are burning and effigies of President-elect Donald Trump are hanging in the streets as Americans come to grips with their new leader.

For the second night in a row, Americans on both coasts — in states traditionally held by Democrats — thousands of protesters have taken to the streets. There’s a common theme: “Not our president”.

Some protests have been going for more than four hours, and tear gas was launched against protesters rallying in Oakland, California on Wednesday night (local time).

Footage showed fires built in the middle of the roads with riot police trying to disperse crowds about 9.30pm.

According to reports from NBC Bay Area, police declared the rally, which attracted at least 6,000 people, an unlawful assembly, and dispersed gas to clear the streets.

Footage posted on Instagram shows smoke, and a loud bang.

“That loud noise and smoke cloud is OPD (Oakland Police Department) pepper spraying everyone this is crazy,” the uploader wrote.

Protesters also shut down a freeway in Los Angeles.

Thousands protested on Wednesday night but by 10.15pm (local time) a few hundred people had marched onto the northbound 101 Freeway, bringing traffic to a standstill.

Police started arresting protesters just before 11pm.

Riot police were also called in to deal with protesters in Denver, Colorado. Facebook Live footage showed many protesters gathering around a large fire in the middle of a road about 10pm (local time).

Another event in Seattle, Washington is believed to have drawn more than 6000 people.

Police in riot gear attempted to hold back thousands of protesters as they reached the University of Washington campus.

Chants of “not my president” rang out and many carried signs that said “Fight Racism” and “Impeach Drumpy.” One protester held an upside down American flag, reported NBC, who believed it symbolised the chaos a Trump presidency would bring to the country

As well as Seattle and Oakland, there’s anger on the streets of Manhattan, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Washington DC, Chicago and Portland. The list goes on.

If authorities thought scenes would return to normal after Tuesday’s protests, night two appears to be a ramping up the chaos..

Trump Towers in New York City and Chicago have become a meeting points for vocal, visual displays of disobedience. Their entrances have been blocked off completely.

A protest in Manhattan drew about 1,000 people. Outside Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in midtown, police installed barricades to keep the demonstrators at bay.

Videos posted to social media under the hashtag #NotOurPresident show chaotic scenes as police try to quell the uprising.

“No Trump”, “No KKK”, “No Fascists USA” are among popular chants, the Chicago Tribune reports.

In New York City, protesters gathered in Union Square holding signs saying “Love Trumps Hate” and “Trump Grabbed America by the *****!” before marching uptown in the thousands to chant in front to Trump Tower.

Outside the White House in Washington DC, hundreds of protesters gathered for a mostly peaceful scene but police were on hand should it turn ugly. There were reports an anti-Trump protester had his ear bitten by a rival supporter. Pictures show a man with blood on his ear and neck.

A demonstrator burned a Trump baseball cap and others held placards reading “Stand Against Anti-Muslim Bigotry!”

Protesters criticised what they called Trump’s racism, sexism and xenophobia, and carrying signs reading “We have a voice!” and “Education for all!”

One of the organisers, Ben Wikler — Washington director of the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org — told the crowd that others were coming together in hundreds of communities around the country.

“People are justly frightened,” he said.

“We are here because in these darkest moments we are not alone,” he added before leading chants of “We are not alone!”.

Ethan Miller of the workers’ rights group Jobs with Justice said organisers held the vigil to show that civil society was resilient.

“It’s a hard time for a lot of Americans,” he told AFP. “We saw a campaign that was filled with racism and misogyny and whole host of other terrible tactics that ultimately were successful for winning the electoral college.

“But we’re not going to let a Donald Trump presidency stop the progress in this country,” he added. “We’re going to continue to organise and fight for the rights of all people and to protect the safety of our brothers and sisters.”

Supporters attending the rally appeared less optimistic.

Joanne Paradis, 31, who was born in Mexico and works in international communications for a non-profit group in Washington, said she attended the rally to “share some solidarity.”

“I feel pretty down,” she said. Asked if the country could weather a Trump presidency, she said, “I don’t know.” “But we have to acknowledge what happened to deal with it, to face it and talk about it and be honest about it.”

“I just came here to mourn,” said Chris Hassan, 28, who works for a civil society group.

In California, it’s officially ugly already, despite the Not Our President protests being positioned as peaceful. Organisers are asking demonstrators to wear black, bring flags and posters and display restraint. “No violence” is a common request. But it often ends in violence.

Windows were smashed around the city and as the clean-up was completed on Wednesday morning, the protests kicked off all over again.

Another 500 students gathered at the university’s San Diego campus, while demonstrations were also reported in downtown Los Angeles, with people yelling “Who’s got the power? We got the power,” the LA Times reports.

A female demonstrator was struck by a car when she strayed onto a busy road in Oakland.

Elsewhere in Oakland, protesters lit fires in the street and stood around them chanting, news reports said. Some threw bottles and firecrackers at police, KPIX TV reported.

Further north, Portland journalist Mike Bivins shared a video showing a flag being burned as a crowd cheered and clapped. Other videos showed students yelling “F**k Trump”, smashing news stands and setting fire to rubbish bins.

In Oregon, dozens of people blocked traffic in downtown Portland, burned American flags and forced a delay for trains on two light-rail lines. Earlier the protest in downtown drew several Trump supporters, who taunted the demonstrators with signs. At one point, a lone Trump supporter was chased across Pioneer Courthouse Square and hit in the back with a skateboard before others intervened.

At Berkeley High School, also in California, 1500 students walked out of class before first period on Wednesday. The LA Times reported students chanted anti-Trump slogans and took to Twitter to contribute to the #NotMyPresident hashtag.

AP reports #NotMyPresident has been used more than half a million times.

In Oakland, an effigy of Donald Trump was also burned.

In Pennsylvania, hundreds of University of Pittsburgh students marched through the streets, with some in the crowd calling for unity.

The student-run campus newspaper, the Pitt News, tweeted about an event titled “Emergency Meeting: Let’s Unite to Stop President Trump.” In Seattle, about 100 protesters gathered in the Capitol Hill neighbourhood, blocked roads and set a trash bin on fire.

Videos from Boston and New York show protests well under way and building.

A woman was struck by a car and severely injured when protesters got onto a highway, the California Highway Patrol said. Demonstrators vandalised the driver’s SUV before officers intervened. The highway was closed for about 20 minutes.

Donald Trump’s shock victory after a bitterly divisive campaign defied polls and political pundits.

Mr Trump struck a conciliatory tone in his first speech, saying the country needed to unify following the vote.

“I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans and this is so important to me,” he said.

“For those who have chosen not to support me ... I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country.

Fires burn in Oakland

“Ours was not a campaign but rather an incredible and great movement made of millions of hard working men and women. It’s a movement comprised of Americans from all races, religions, backgrounds and beliefs who want our government to serve the people.”

Daily Bruin reporter Tanner Walters said “thousands” had been sent to the streets in Westwood, California.

Earlier it was reported the Los Angeles Police Department were preparing for “riot mode” in certain neighbourhoods in the event of a Trump win.

“The polite thing to say is that this is not unusual, but this has been a very unusual election,” a police source toldDeadline. “We are ready to go into riot mode if required, if the order comes.”

Mr Trump’s win has inspired a wave of congratulations from far-right leaders around the world including France’s Marine Le Pen and Holland’s Geer Wilders.

Former UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage also congratulated the Republican leader after becoming a regular feature on his campaign following the Brexit result.

Russian President Vladmir Putin said he hopes the two countries can work to “restore” their relationship from its lowest point since the Cold War.

However it has also energised nationalistic and anti-immigrant groups leading to clashes following the vote. Outside Trump headquarters in Manhattan rival groups changed “Black lives matter” and “All lives matter” at one another.

Protesters clashed with police after chanting “Donald Trump has got to go” as the Republican nominee was confirmed as President.

Media That Warned Of Trump Riots Now Covers Hillary ‘Protests’

News outlets that warned of violent riots from Donald Trump supporters if Hillary Clinton won the White House are now all but lauding the people “protesting” his victory.

The New York Times was reporting on the potential for a literal “revolution” attempt by Trump supporters if Clinton won the White House about a week before the election. “The crowds appeared on edge and quick to lash out,” the story read.

Now the crowds that are actually lashing out are Clinton supporters. “Thousands of people across the country marched, shut down highways, burned effigies and shouted angry slogans on Wednesday night to protest the election of Donald J. Trump as president,” reports The New York Times.

The scenes are something like the cover of The Week published in late October warning of the danger of riots over Clinton loss, if you nix the “Make America Great Again” hat, replace the Trump slogans with signs that read “**** Trump,” and insert someone burning the American flag.

“Here’s the latest cover of our magazine, featuring the potentially frightening consequences of Trump’s ‘rigged’ election talk,” the outlet tweeted along with a photo of the cover.

Now the magazine is running a blurb on the protests by Clinton supporters. No mention of fright there.

A week ahead of the election, The Washington Post featured a little-known militia group called the Oath Keepers in its coverage of the dangers of a Trump loss. “Race riots, terrorist attacks and martial law: Oath Keepers warn of post-election chaos,” the headline blared. The reporter didn’t hesitate to explicitly tie the group to Trump, although the group identifies as non-partisan.

“The only thing Americans can expect on Election Day, the speakers repeatedly emphasized, is the unexpected,” reported The Washington Post, along with a long list of scary quotes from the group.

Now the paper is running story after story on the angry mobs protesting Trump’s victory.

NBC News ran a story about the “dangerous tone” of Trump-inspired election pranks in the weeks leading up to the election, but is now reporting on the “inspired” protests of his victory happening across the country.

Clinton supporters across the country have been reported beating up white people, burning American flags, vandalizing private property, threatening to assassinate Trump, and shouting violent slogans such as “Die Whites Die” and “Kill Trump.”
