Not according to the Scriptures themselves, which also include apostolic Tradition as "the word of God" (1 Thess. 2:13; 2 Thess. 2:15; 1 Cor. 11:2).

Catholics would agree with this basic position. The question, then, is who possesses the inherent doctrinal authority to interpret and apply God's word in a manner which is binding upon all believers of all times?

Is it:
  • that one historic Church founded by Jesus Christ himself in 33 A.D., and against which he declared that the gates of Hades would never prevail (Mt. 16:18-19; 1 Tim. 3:15), or is it
  • each individual lay believer with a Bible and an opinion?

Deception. No scripture asserts, nor even hints, that the church, which is his body, is infallible.

God is well able to apply His word, we are told simply to preach or announce God's word. And His word is simple to understand it does not need human interpretation.

Your ignorance is showing. The simple fact is that everyone interprets everything they read, every time they read it, and to read and understand without interpreting is simply impossible. To "interpret" means "to draw out the meaning." Therefore, your claim here amounts to the declaration that the Bible "does not need to have its meaning drawn out." In other words, you're saying, "I read the Bible, but I don't discern its meaning!" :doh: No, you interpret the Bible every time you read it, just like everyone else. So much for your self-evidently false claim.

How would anyone know what is good tradition and bad tradition?

a. the written word of God - scripture alone

b. the opinions of religious leaders and their favorite traditions

What traditions did Paul consent to?

Where are those traditions listed?

a. there is no list in scripture

b. scripture is traditionally held as truth because God's word says of itself that God's word is truth. John 17:17

No, but the Holy Spirit which he sent to teach us the truth did inspire the authors of scripture... which I take as much more reliable and has more authority than a bunch of Italians.
