Calling out Hartline

I, for one, am sick and tired of this pompous piece of work using TOL as a soapbox for self-promotion.

I'm equally disgusted with Hartline's refusal to take personal responsibility for screwing his life up in so tragic a fashion.

In the press he has blamed his lifestyle's crash and burn on his mother's abuse and stumbling across his father's porn. On TOL and elsewhere, Hartline has never once taken ownership for his mistakes. Instead, he has consistently avoided the question and (when pressed) blamed everyone but himself.

I usually have a problem with self-righteous patters-of-their-own-back in general, but this guy's definitely unique. He's using TOL to link to his own site (which I thought was verboten) and gets a pass for his buck passing because of his personal crusade.

James, advice: quit with the self-flaggelation, admit you and you alone fouled the ball, and enjoy what time you have left.

As long as people make a point and attempt do more than simply redirect we are generally OK with external links.

I think initially we warned him and made him start adding more substance to his posts.

That seems awfully convenient. So: if a member of the Church of Satan was engaging in several discussions describing his or her activities on the CoS' behalf and was linking their website, would that be acceptable? What if it was an active member of the Democratic Party? PETA? Wicca?

Remember, the rule says do not attempt to redirect members to another forum. Linking to personal sites is okay so long as it's not a forum (nor a TOL-unacceptable site, of course).

I remember Hartline linked to one board before, that I edited out and warned him about. He might have posted it a couple times before he got the hint. I haven't seen him link to it lately. :idunno:
