Caitlyn Jenner, reality star and former Olympian who announced her transition last year, is having a rough time dealing with the change and might go back to being the man known as Bruce Jenner, according to celebrity biographer Ian Halperin.
The No. 1 New York Times bestselling author also revealed that Jenner's ex-wife, Kris Jenner, forced him into religious conversion therapy, and attempted to get him to attend church in an effort to save their marriage after she found out he wanted to transition into being a woman.
"It hasn't been easy for Caitlyn, it's been very hard," Halperin said a source told him during an interview with The Wrap, about his new book, Kardashian Dynasty: The Controversial Rise of America's Royal Family.
Halperin told The Wrap that while doing research for the book, multiple sources shared with him that Jenner had been miserable for months and has considered transitioning back to being a man.
"One source confirmed to me Caitlyn has made whispers of 'sex change regret,' hinting she might go back to being Bruce Jenner," Halperin said.
While Jenner was "thrilled" to champion transgender issues, the reality TV personality could de-transition "in the next couple years" Halperin said one long-time friend told him.
"It hasn't been easy for Caitlyn, it's been very hard," the friend said, according to Halperin. "She's thrilled she has raised awareness about how transgender people have long been discriminated against but I think there's a chance she'll de-transition in the next couple years. I don't think it would surprise anybody in her inner circle. It has been much harder than she anticipated. My heart goes out to her and I know her true friends will be there to support her on whatever path she chooses."
As The Christian Post reported last year when Jenner first publically announced the transition during an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer, a study conducted in Sweden in 2003 revealed that transsexuals who change their gender through body mutilation or hormone therapy have a higher suicide rate than the general population.
The study, which followed 191 male-to-female gender reassignments and 133 female-to-male gender reassignments from 1973-2003, found that suicide attempts and in-patient psychiatric treatment actually increased in Sweden among those who had a sex change.
A driving force behind Jenner's desire to go back to being Bruce is his interest in women, according to Halperin.
"She's still into women and wants to meet the right one," Halperin told the Wrap.
The author believes that "Jenner will de-transition in the next couple of years, telling the public how difficult the transition was, but noting that she was happy to help raise awareness about transgender [issues]," the Wrap reports.
