Ask an Aussie

Also, when I was there, people were discussing splitting from Great Britain, a lot, because they really didn't seem to like Charles, and they were insisting that they would not be a future King Charles' vassal. (Or something like that.)

Well, when you're a nation comprised of Britain's cast offs you can't very well expect a great deal of respect for the crown.

I think of it as being sort of like the music playing as the Titanic sank.

Do Aussies resent crass U.S. commercialism creeping into Australia? When I was there, I kept seeing KFC and McDonalds all over the place. (Oddly, they always seemed to be next door to each other.) And I was actually embarrassed by them. And even when it wasn't U.S. conglomerate chain store I was seeing, it was an obvious Aussie knock-off (of Starbucks, and Burger King, etc.).

Some will complain that Australia is becoming Americanized....as they sip their Starbucks coffee on their way to the Gap store :)

It's been debated for years and it's really a mixture of opinions...some love the monarchy and others want independence from the crown.

Is warming up here in Victoria too. Though fortunately our fire warning is "only" very high for half the state.

Is it true the "dingoes ate my baby" lady was exonerated a while back? I overheard something about it but never looked into it.

Yep. Forensic evidence proved that a Dingo did kill Azaria and so her Mother's records were wiped clean.

I remember at the time, a TV station hired an Aboriginal Tracker to investigate the area and he said back then that it was a Dingo.
