  • In Bauckham's book there was a part that referenced 12:10 where Satan is said to constantly accuse the brethren to God. It wasn't the focus of his point but it struck me and I was thinking about how often it seems like the modern church, at least here in the US, looks more like the Accuser than Christ who died for us while we were still sinners.

Ah, I see. I think I can see that collapse of difference between philosophy and theology, but I think you must still keep revelation as distinct from both. Christianity not being Hellenized sounds familiar. Maybe he talked about it in his Triune Identity book that I read.

:chuckle: Going to school could be nice for the educational aspect but I don't see myself going into the vocation.

Coelho is a very spiritual writer but kind of out there in some ways. He's Catholic but not very Orthodox. :chuckle:

Thanks for the tip about Jenson's books. By the time I'm done with Bauackham the 1st volume will probably be here. I will probably at least skim through some parts before starting the 2nd.
I had a bunch of Amazon points and I just ordered Jenson's systematic theology for free. :chuckle: I'm supposed to get part 2 this Saturday which is nice because I'm more interested in that one. Do you think it would be important to read them in order though?
    I'm always reading something.

I finished Murakami's book and then read Paulo Coelho's book, The Alchemist. I enjoyed both. I think I will check out at least one of Coelho's other books. Are you familiar with him?

For non-fiction I'm pretty much done with Pannenberg's book and now I started up Bauckham's Revelation book. Not Climax, his shorter one. I'm about 1/3 of the way through. Enjoying it so far.

Saying that's implicit modalism seems to make sense. How does he reject the distinction between revelation and philosophical theology? Maybe I'm just not following but there seems to be a big difference, with much in Christianity dependent on revelation.
If you read Pannenberg I'll be interested to see what you think. I really enjoyed him. I think he made Christ's divinity make sense more than anyone else has for me.

    Thank you, that was beautiful.

It will take a while for me to reply. I think that, as things get busier and busier for you, that will be okay with you. :)
I came across a science blog called The Mermaid's Tale. Read a couple entries. It's interesting.

    :wave2:
    Glad to hear it.

Pannenberg is going well. I've skipped around a bit so I haven't read every page but most of it. I'm in a section now about Jesus' freedom/will and the possibility for Jesus to act against God. Pannenberg says that wasn't possible for Jesus. Jesus' freedom is based in his unity with God and following his mission. Freedom doesn't mean standing indifferently before options and choosing one. He says this also means we have to look at humanity in general because if Jesus was fully man then what applies to him must apply to us. So he says man doesn't have a freedom based in indifferently choosing among various options. Our choices are based in a context of our destiny. The problem for us is that we don't have a perfect view of that destiny and our perception of God is clouded. So we act and choose against God but it's not a naked decision against God. He says the possibility of acting against God is not an element of human creatureliness but an element of sin.

H&G are planning a big celebration for New Years. They are going to NYC and will try to replace the normal ball that drops with an alpaca figure. :plain:

    Hope your Christmas was nice.

    :e4e:
Yeah, a way to earn some cash during the holidays. Not that they use their own money to buy Christmas presents. They use mine. :mmph:

Are you ready for the holiday?

    :e4e:
Congratulations! Hard worked, and well deserved. :)

I've just finished up my semester with two last finals yesterday, and am looking forward to the winter break. I'll write a PM soon, and if you don't mind, would like to take it in a little different direction.
 It was horrible. The fire department isn't very fond of me right now.
Wasn't familiar with that term so I had to look it up. :chuckle:
Congratulations. Well deserved for all the hard work. Doing anything to celebrate? :D
