Because Jesus spoke of two resurrections, not including His, of the just and the unjust. John would know about the two. But he would also know about the rapture resurrection from Paul, as Peter would have. Not to mention that Lazarus was resurrected before Jesus, and John was there.

Peter knew about Paul's letters, and Paul wrote of a resurrection of those of the BOC who had fallen asleep in 1Thes 4. Why wouldn't John have known about them? And if he did know, wouldn't he have known to call the first resurrection of Rev 20 "the second", if it indeed applied to the whole...

I think you are right, and it seems like the resurrected saints will rule and reign with Him during the millennial kingdom. If that includes both Jewish and Gentile Christians, including the 12 apostles, I dont think there's anything to argue about.
