Why don't you read what Jesus said in John 3?

John 3:

There seems to be no mental path I can find to connect anything he's said to such a goofy conclusion.
I said tell me why he was rebuked. Show me what he didn't know prior to John 3. He was supposed to know. You have misdirected and created a strawman statement. This means you are not ignorant of the subject, but lying.
Nicodemus was supposed to know because it is in prophecy and not hidden.

And, you seem to be trying your best to miss the point. Jesus wasn't asking a real question, He was being sarcastic. He was saying to Nichodemus, "You're a lot dumber than you think you are." He was mocking his status as "a teacher of Israel".
