The biggest risk among survivors beyond shortages of food and other bare necessities would be political. Our constitution in America protects all pretty well from being molested by our regime, the risk would be in an apocalyptic dystopian world that we would sacrifice or surrender our constitution, just to survive.

Without electricity you lose food, you lose water, you lose heat or air conditioning, two primary elements of shelter.

Without petroleum you lose farming, you lose transportation of food, you lose processing of food.

Without petroleum or electricity, you lose a safe, stable and disease free food supply and water supply. And you lose hospitals. You lose modern health care.

Without modern health care infant mortality returns to what it was in the 1800s. Without modern antibiotics a scratch or cut is very apt to lead to a life-threatening infection, especially in those whose immune system are compromised by either disease or health status, including obesity.

If you want to see what it would look like, look at the pygmy tribes and the heart of the Amazon. Look at the tribal peoples in Africa with no contact with the modern world.

and then consider that the first winter in most of the United States and Northern Europe will kill most of the people through starvation and cold.

Would humanity survive? Sure probably. Much as the Galapagos tortoise has "survived". Much as the panda bear has "survived".

If I found myself a survivor in this environment, I would seek out the Amish.

If they wanted WWIII they could have done it all along, and without any pretext either, just do it. They haven't done that. Why haven't they done that, if they're supposedly so intent on WWIII?
