Matthew 22:11,12 KJV
Matthew is arranged in a manner that combines similar elements together. You'll often have a few narratives and a few teachings and a few parables together, and they are often related.
This parable is paired with the parable of the two sons (one said he would go, didn't; one said he wouldn't go, did), and the parable of the tenants, who beat the master's servants and killed his son, in order to receive the inheritance.
These are both discussions of how the Jews are reacting to Jesus. The first is the people who are fickle in their allegiance, but ultimately those who follow will be saved. The second is about how the nation of Israel treats its prophets, and how they will ultimately crucify Christ.
So, this third parable is in this same vein: how is Israel reacting to Jesus?
So, first we have those we would expect to come to Christ: The religious leaders, the most respected. But they rejected Christ. Those who did come to Christ were often the poor, the sick, the sinners and outcasts. But even among these, there will be those who reject Christ, even if they were healed or were fed, which is represented by the man without the wedding clothes.
