It wasn't until Moses that an OUT was given on the shedding of man's blood. So, you go and accidentally run over someone with your car and we'll see if you have to pay any restitution or get charged with negligent homicide. Negligent homicide. You should have been more careful with that rock you threw.

Negligent homicide != accidental homicide

The verse I quoted above is about accidental homicide.

Negligent homicide is a crime, and is punishable. (See Exodus 21:28-30, Deuteronomy 22:8)

Accidental homicide, which is what we're talking about, IS NOT. (Deuteronomy 19:4)

In fact, though, I was thinking of the manslayers who would flee to the cities of refuge. Granted those were not premeditated murders, but still a crime and still required a penalty.

Where does it call the accidental killing of someone a crime?

In fact, it's quite the opposite:

“And this is the case of the manslayer who flees there, that he may live: Whoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, not having hated him in time past—as when a man goes to the woods with his neighbor to cut timber, and his hand swings a stroke with the ax to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle and strikes his neighbor so that he dies—he shall flee to one of these cities and live;lest the avenger of blood, while his anger is hot, pursue the manslayer and overtake him, because the way is long, and kill him, though he was not deserving of death, since he had not hated the victim in time past. - Deuteronomy 19:4-6 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy19:4-6&version=NKJV

Manslaughter is a crime...which is why they needed cities of refuge. I didn't say it was a death penalty crime. You just assumed I said that.

You said "penalty," of which there is none for accidental homicide, not even the death penalty. You brought up cities of refuge, and wrongly asserted that the ones who would flee there had committed a crime.

Yet that's not what the passage says. It says the one who flees there hadn't committed a crime, but he was fleeing to escape the wrath of the avenger, until the death of the current high priest.

There is no crime committed, only someone who accidentally killed someone, who now has to escape the wrath of the one who is in anguish over the death of someone close.

Don't tell me to stop it.

I can't tell a friend to stop using straw man arguments against my position?

she seems to think that most cases of murder, theft, adultery, etc were dealt with by the Israelites with sanctuary cities - that law-breakers weren't punished according to the law, but allowed to be exiled :kookoo:

You seem to think you're smart, but you're proving otherwise.

I bring up sacrifices and you two act like you've never heard of them.

Why not add those to this sharia law you hope to impose on us?

Nope. I can't preach the Gospel to them if they are dead...stoned by some over-zealous judge.
Can't preach to murderers, pedophiles, and rapists, if they're dead either...

so your strategy wrt witnessing is to encourage the moral decay of our society, to encourage our children to be raised thinking that evil is good, just so you'll have more sinners to convert? :kookoo:

in ancient Israel, if a man deliberately murdered another man, are you claiming that he could escape punishment by making a sacrifice? :freak:

David did. He murdered Uriah...trespassed against the Lord, and confessed it.

2 Samuel 12:13
So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”
And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.

Numbers 5:Confession and Restitution
5 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 6 “Speak to the children of Israel: ‘When a man or woman commits any sin that men commit in unfaithfulness against the Lord, and that person is guilty, 7 then he shall confess the sin which he has committed. He shall make restitution for his trespass in full, plus one-fifth of it, and give it to the one he has wronged. 8 But if the man has no relative to whom restitution may be made for the wrong, the restitution for the wrong must go to the Lord for the priest, in addition to the ram of the atonement with which atonement is made for him. 9 Every offering[c] of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they bring to the priest, shall be his. 10 And every man’s [d]holy things shall be his; whatever any man gives the priest shall be his.’ ”

Concerning Unfaithful Wives
11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘If any man’s wife goes astray and behaves unfaithfully toward him, 13 and a man lies with her carnally, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and it is concealed that she has defiled herself, and there was no witness against her, nor was she caught— 14 if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, who has defiled herself; or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, although she has not defiled herself— 15 then the man shall bring his wife to the priest. He shall bring the offering required for her, one-tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering of jealousy, an offering for remembering, for bringing iniquity to remembrance.

16 ‘And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the Lord. 17 The priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel, and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water. 18 Then the priest shall stand the woman before the Lord, uncover the woman’s head, and put the offering for remembering in her hands, which is the grain offering of jealousy. And the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that brings a curse. 19 And the priest shall put her under oath, and say to the woman, “If no man has lain with you, and if you have not gone astray to uncleanness while under your husband’s authority, be free from this bitter water that brings a curse. 20 But if you have gone astray while under your husband’s authority, and if you have defiled yourself and some man other than your husband has lain with you”— 21 then the priest shall put the woman under the oath of the curse, and he shall say to the woman—“the Lord make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the Lord makes your thigh [e]rot and your belly swell; 22 and may this water that causes the curse go into your stomach, and make your belly swell and your thigh rot.”

‘Then the woman shall say, “Amen, so be it.”

GREAT ZEAL....but zeal without knowledge is such a drag. Romans 10:2

We live in a world of sin. Your zeal for the law will not change that.

Witnessing to sinners does NOT encourage the decay of our society.

I guess I'll stick with what I'm supposed to be doing. We are not here to judge the world, but to save sinners as ambassadors for Christ. Much like what Jesus was doing when He walked among us.

John 12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

They present a danger that homosexuals and adulterers do NOT.

This is so simple. :AMR:

I wonder how many murders are a result of infidelity of a spouse or lover...

And how many fewer adulterers and homosexuals there would be if adultery and homosexuality were capital crimes.
