Which verse is your least favorite?

We all have a few verses that we would not mind if God decided to leave them out of the Bible.

My top pick is I Thessalonians 4:11 - "that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you,"

A "quiet life?" Seriously? I only have one life to live and God wants me to live it quietly? Sorry. Not gonna happen. I have to be misinterpreting this verse. God is apparently unaware of how much fun it is to make the left hate you.

If confession is good for the soul, then there ya go.

Maybe this one ....

"If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue
her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by
his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity."
Deut 25:11-12

From James B. Jordan, The Law of the Covenant: An Exposition of Exodus 21-23.
Cutting off the palm seems to mean not chopping off the hand at the wrist, but splitting the hand through the middle fingers, so as to incapacitate the hand. Since the woman has no private parts to be crushed, "eye for eye" means that her hand is to be ruined instead. Notice, by the way, that this law seems to be the obverse of Exodus 21:22. There the woman and child are protected from the (possibly) deliberate attack by the husband's enemy. Here the man is protected from a deliberate attack by his opponent's wife. All forms of assault are punished in Scripture.
It is noteworthy, however, that an almost exact correspondence of physical mutilation is prescribed in Deuteronomy 25:11-12. The genitals were not cut off, so the hand is not. The genitals are incapacitated; so is the hand, so that it can never grasp again. All the same, equivalent compensation is not ruled out.

Thank you for posting that. It was interesting.

Regarding Deut. 25:11-12
Just to be chatty, allow me to speculate (pure speculation)

Preliminary observation:
The picture of a wife actually grabbing the private parts of her husband's opponent in a fight
is strongly weird and bizarre. Just imagine what kind of a lunatic society you'd have if that was
commonplace.

So?

So I am going to speculate here:

There was one (1) nutty woman that did that one (1) time.

The leaders then said, "Humm we have to have a law to stop this right now
because this loony woman may do this again. And as time goes on she may
find one other loony woman to gang with her and we might end up with a
small cluster of 3 or 4 loony women that do such as that. So we need to pass
a law right now to nip this in the bud."

I am speculating that the woman never did it again and that the offense never
occurred again (by others), and that the penalty of chopping off a hand was never
actually applied.

I am wide open to any points you have that might even suggest that my speculation
cannot be correct.

Best

Here is one more:

. "But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the
devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn
him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
Jude 1:9

* I have read some commentaries on Jude 1:9

* Some Christians have concluded that, based on Jude 1:9, we ought not
to directly insult Satan.

However, I hold the position that Satan is a stupid moron and I call him
"Birdbrain" to his face all the time, so to speak. I mean Birdbrain knew
and fully understood BEFORE he began the war with God, that God was
Sovereign and All Powerful and could not be defeated -- yet Birdbrain
proceeded with the war anyway.

Some have said, "Well, Satan was counting on God playing by His own rules
and on that basis Satan had reasonable hopes of winning the war because
the free will decisions of God's Human Race Project was based on human
freedom which was not predictable."

My view: Satan would have known that God would never launch a Hunam Race
Project that He was not certain of winning.

So?

So Satan is Birdbrain.

I don't think he's a birdbrain. I think he was as incapable as we are of wrapping our minds around the concept of the Creator of the universe being so self-sacrificial that He would take on the lowly form of a man, suffer and die a torturous death for our benefit. I think it shocked him.

Even though Satan was fully aware of the ritual blood sacrifices of animals in Israel, he still was not capable of making the connection. Not even when Jesus was in the process of being crucified. His wicked mind was not capable of even conceiving of a love that altruistic. It took him by surprise.

Also, before the fall, Lucifer had never witnessed that degree of love from God before because it had never needed to be called upon. Satan did not think God was capable of that kind of love because he had never seen it before from Him.

Thanks for taking the time to write your thoughts on that. Interesting.

Regarding Lucy:
I've always thought Lucifer was a rather cool name for El Diablo.

A short interesting article on:

Best.
