With what kind of body was Jesus resurrected?
This is an important question. Was Jesus resurrected with a fleshly body or with a spiritual body?
The Apostle Paul wrote the following about the resurrection ...1Corinthians 15:42-45 KJV
42So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
43It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
44It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
45And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
You can see that Paul is saying that the resurrection body is a spiritual body.
The Apostle Paul continues with this startling statement....1Corinthians 15:50
50Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable
Flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom....Jesus had to be spirit if he ascended into Heaven.
The Apostle Peter agrees with Paul......1Peter 3:18
18For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;
""Made alive in the spirit.""
Now it would seem that the Apostles Peter and Paul agree that Jesus was resurrected with a spiritual body.
But let's examine what other Bible writers say.......
Luke says.....Luke 24:39
39"See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have."
John agrees with Luke that the risen Jesus is flesh..John 20:27
27Then He said to Thomas, "Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing."
But let's see what Jesus said himself about what type of body he would be resurrected with......John 2:19-22
19Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
20The Jews then said, "It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?"
21But He was speaking of the temple of His body.
22So when He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.
Remember that John's Gospel claims that Jesus is the word that became flesh [John 1:14] Didn't Jesus claim he would raise up his fleshly body in the preceding verses?
