The site isn't letting me copy/paste anything but this article makes some arguments for moving to a single payer system.
I was just having a conversation last night about healthcare and was wondering if costs for services are lower in countries that have a single-payer system. This article gives some examples where US costs are significantly higher, saying that in single-payer the gov't can negotiate lower prices.
It also makes an argument against the notion that free markets in healthcare would lower prices because health services is not the type of thing where customers/patients can easily shop around and promote competition.
