JR, there's no two ways to cut this. If you're going to promote the idea that our civil and criminal law should mirror the Mosaic law, you're seeking to put yourself (and everyone else) under the Law. That's what it amounts to.
Anyone who seeks to be under the Law is under a curse.
I have been advocating that our laws mirror GOD'S laws. The fact that it would be similar to the Mosaic law is because God's law its perfect and doesn't change.
Paul said this:
Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm. But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust. - 1 Timothy 1:5-11

The law is a curse if you're trying to keep it to be saved.
But the law is good if used lawfully, for keeping the wicked in check and to slow the decay of society.
I think I would agree with that IF the Old Testament Law was not cited as the basis for it. If a nation decided to capitalize each of those offenses simply for the sake of social cohesion, I'd have no problem with it because the wicked would increasingly be done away with (a proper duty Paul says falls to government) and that society would be better off for it.
That is what we're doing here.
Doser made a list above of what the law is intended to do.
But as I said to JR, I want no part of anyone forcing anyone else under the Law of Moses, no matter what else they call it.
I don't want people under the law of Moses either.
I want them under civil laws that reflect God's law.
Of course this whole sub-discussion is moot; the West is so thoroughly degraded and corrupted that nothing even close to your proposal will EVER happen.
Just because righteousness isn't likely to abound in the near future doesn't mean we don't advocate for it.
Here is the criminal code proposed by Bob Enyart and kgov.
Please tell me if it would be a curse, or if it would be used lawfully.
