There are quit a few criminals who don't commit crimes because they get checks sent to their home in lieu of work. When they checks stop because you can't just close the Army for the day, they will turn to violence and rioting.

I am VERY concerned. On the one hand, if we really want to fix the debt and deficit problems something like the fiscal cliff is what we need to do. It was easy to get into debt but to get out of it will require significant sacrifice from all of us. That said, the draconian measures that kick on on 1/1/13 are probably enough to send America into a recession that makes the last recession look positively rosy. We may end up in a depression. China and others may come a knocking demanding to cash in their T-bills. How do we pay those back? Couple that with the global economy that we no live in and the cuts could trigger a very deep world wide recession. Then we add in the shooting war in Syria right now, the growing tensions between Israel and Palestinians and things could end up in a shooting war.

That may be overly pessimistic but I am not feeling particularly optimistic given the progress being made in Washington right now.

Both sides will refuse to budge until the last minute. The republicans are in a bad position, since the cuts will affect their constituencies more and the tax increases will be blamed on them.

We should go off the cliff. If the Republicans want a tax decrease for the middle class, the next congress can vote on one. There is no hope from this congress for any sensible action whatever.

The "fiscal cliff" is make-believe. Nothing will happen.

Prophecy will be fullfilled in preparation for the return of Jesus.
Take your pick of which will happen:
  • The fiscal cliff will collapse America so it is no longer a global power, to match the interpretations that say America is not in Bible Prophecy.
  • The fiscal cliff will cause the American people to vote in the son of perdition as president, changing America into the beast of Revelation.
  • People will continue eating, drinking, and marrying without really noticing.

just give them the tax increases that they want
it is the only way they will learn
it is the only way to get the republicans elected
it has to get worse before the voters see the light

What will it take for the Republican party to see the light so it will stop trying to be the Democrat party?

Our money will be worth nothing. We will never be able to repay our debts to other countries. The loss of our standard of living will lead to demonstrations and the increasing lack will lead to violence in the streets.

That is ... unless other nations take over our nation due to our weakness before all that happens. Our situation of increasing the national debt to this extent is just pure foolishness/stupidity/criminal.

I'd happily take that chance. I don't think it would turn out how you think it will.

Classic republican reaction.

"There's nothing wrong with us. There's something wrong with Americans."

there is nothing wrong with americans
outside of the fact that they are

killing their babies
rejecting marriage and family
spending like there is no tomorrow
asking the state to take care of them
