Nixon came from a time when people were more mature. The media would never publicly denigrate a president, it was not done. Nixon had some problems with trusting others, so he did not want to be in a position of owing favors to the CIA, which is way he started the 'mini-CIA' in the White House; we call them the plumbers. Nixon was a good president in many ways, although he was not mentally stable enough to go beyond his feelings of persecution, something we do not have to worry about with Trump, but his lack of trust and feelings of inferiority left him vulnerable to a hostile political climate, on many fronts.
Whether you like JFK, or not, he would have never took any nonsense from the press, or any private individual. He was a true cold warrior who would be quite conservative in our time, he would have hung Bernie Sanders!
