What we do know is that men are sometimes convicted of crimes they did not, in fact, commit. So we can't see a statistical correlation between deterrence and the death penalty, but we can know with near certainty that it will involve putting the innocent to death on occasion.

Then the DP isn't a deterrent in those cases which means that in those cases it can't be a meaningful consideration. Doesn't help you if you're advocating for it. Crimes of passion tend to be the sort that can be pleaded down to 2nd degree murder or voluntary manslaughter.

Haven't seen a study to suggest it using empirical data. Looking at close neighbors I'm not seeing any statistical advantage to the DP.

Virginia, in 2015, had 4.6 homicides per 100k people. Virginia has the DP.
W. Virg., in 2015, had 3.8 homicides per 100k people. West Virginia banned the DP in 1965.

West Virginia is poorer, with the median income more than 20k below its adjoined big brother, and the population has about half the college graduates as a percentage of the population. West Virginia has right at 18% of its population living below the poverty line. Virginia has 11%.

Illinois, in 2015 had 5.8 homicides per 100k people. Illinois banned the DP.
Indiana, in 2015, had 5.6 homicides per 100k people. Indiana has the DP.


Illinois has a significantly larger population of college educated people and 11k more median income. They're about the same in terms of poverty and populace, with Illinois at 14.1 and Indiana at 15.4%

No, you're confusing me with Sod/doser, who routinely declares the spiritual fate and family of people he dislikes.

The quotes didn't lead you to your conclusion. I suspect your bias filter did. "You should close the distance" between your example and your action is a criticism, not a condemnation or attempt argue over the fate of his soul. That's above my pay grade.

But most of what Sod says about people and how he uses the Bible and his purported faith doesn't evidence gratitude or grace. My hope for him is that he simply has a selfish and immature faith that can and will alter him more over time. But if his faith and reliance are genuine, he may have a lot of apologizing to do for how he met it, but his salvation is secure. Between him and God. I can only speak to the quality of his witness, which at this point seems largely an angry and frustrated noise. A bit like the fellow forgiven much who rushes out to collect debts.
