I haven't read through all of the recent activity on this thread but if she's got a kid then there's a man out there who's not living up to his responsibilities.

My comments are being used to drag this thread way off the topic. I simply was trying to make the point that it is far easier to say "Take your kids out of school" than it is to actually do it for the millions of Americans in very difficult situations.

Ridiculous comments like "Go find a man" and other nonsense are not solutions to peoples' serious problems. We need real solutions.

Now the topic is "The time has come...to disobey" and I agree. My post was a good example, some people didn't think it was, and there it is.

Even though I am a conservative and want small government, education is one of the few things that benefit America. An educated population can do good work and have good jobs and make us a superpower. Education is just as necessary as a Military. It helps us keep a middle class, and we desperately need that.

People often abuse the phrase in the constitution "promote the general welfare", but this is a rare case when the the standard of living for all is raised, when the population is educated. Like I said, It is in the best interest of America to invest in BASIC education for its people. That is not socialist, that is common sense.

The problem is the people running the dang schools, and unions.

John Stossel is the guy to follow on this subject. He has figured out some pretty smart things and he has reported on this topic for decades.

I followed your link to Stossel and watched his piece on homeschooling. We have found over the last 50 years in our church school thast Christian schools and home schools often produce students with higher levels of academic achievement than their counterparts in public schools. I blame that on progressive educators who dumb down classroom studies to meet social goals of inclusiveness, who introduce false narratives, including evolution, black supremacist racism, homosexuality acceptance, Marxism, and so forth. This is from Stossel's piece on homeschooling:

Even though students taught at homes make up just 2 percent of the entire school age population, they are more than 10 percent of the finalists in this year's national spelling bee. They will make up an even higher percentage at National Geographic Society's National Geographic Bee.

"I think there's a certain sense of astonishment," says Paige Kimble, the director of the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee. "And frankly I think there's also a sense of respect and jealousy."

"The recent successes of home schoolers in these contests have been very beneficial for home education because it now becomes credible to many people who were thinking before that this is just done by a bunch of weirdos who want to go in the back woods and isolate their children," says Michael Smith, the president of the Home School Legal Defense Association. "There are people actually considering home schooling today [who] would have never thought about it 10 years ago."
