"And the Lord formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."

The word is (nephesh) in the OT and (psuche) in the NT.

Anything specific?

What is the soul?
The Bible states that man is made of three parts, Body, Soul, and Spirit.

The Body is what allows us to interact with the physical world.

The Soul is what allows us to interact with other humans, and to varying lesser degrees other creatures. (Plants do not have souls, nor do insects and a few other animals.)

The Spirit allows us to communicate with our Creator God, who is spirit.

All humans have souls, which allow us to relate and interact with other humans.

Many animals have souls, some to a greater degree than others, which allows us to have relationships with those animals.

For example, a man or woman can have a very strong relationship with a dog, cat, horse or dolphin, but have a very weak relationship with a snake, bird, goldfish, or turtle.

As I said above, plants do not have a soul, nor do insects and some animals.

Does that help?
