Why would God who is infinitely good in all ways and all-loving allow suffering in the world? As illustrated vividly in the story of Job in the Bible, why would God allow Satan to do whatever he wants and wreak havoc and pain in the lives of humans for no apparent reason?

Because in the end it doesn't matter. One moment after we're dead we won't care about anything we suffered in life, never mind eternity later. All evil will be answered and every tear wiped away. Even the rebellious will be put away, utterly separated from the rest of the universe forever.

From that perspective, what does any of this evil we worry and suffer matter?

Because He is patient and does not want any to perish, 2 Peter 3:9.

I always find it curious that so many want to blame God for what man himself has done and continues to do.

The problem of evil! Yes, this is generally considered a fundamental problem for monotheistic worldviews. There are a lot of proposed answers out there. Which answers have you come across so far and why don't you consider any of them satisfactory?

God did not cause death [and all human woe is in connection with death] He warned man not to partake the knowledge of evil which would bring it.

The purpose of Job is to show that it is Satan who is behind all human woe, while God hedges His people around. The test was Job's faith and Job's response was patience under trial. God's trial of Job needed that Job be perfect, the trial of his faith would have been null and void if he were a sinner, so one question is not why God allows evil but why do we sin?

Humans brought suffering upon themselves by disobedience.

"To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,

'Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return” (Genesis 3:17-19).


Satan can only tempt us. It is humans who bring havoc and pain upon themselves and others by falling to temptation.

"And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season" (Luke 4:13).


We can resist temptation spare ourselves from the pain of sin.

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7).

Hey, we had it all, just like Bogie and Bacall......be glad Eve didn't go for the fruit from the tree of life as well. We might have been stuck with sin for eternity!

No but He foreknew that man would rebel and bring upon himself and foreknowing He planned everything with man's redemption in view.
