The Love of Christ on the cross:

Lessons from the Cross

(2017.9) 188:5.1 The cross of Jesus portrays the full measure of the supreme devotion of the true shepherd for even the unworthy members of his flock. It forever places all relations between God and man upon the family basis. God is the Father; man is his son. Love, the love of a father for his son, becomes the central truth in the universe relations of Creator and creature — not the justice of a king which seeks satisfaction in the sufferings and punishment of the evil-doing subject.

(2018.1) 188:5.2 The cross forever shows that the attitude of Jesus toward sinners was neither condemnation nor condonation, but rather eternal and loving salvation. Jesus is truly a savior in the sense that his life and death do win men over to goodness and righteous survival. Jesus loves men so much that his love awakens the response of love in the human heart. Love is truly contagious and eternally creative. Jesus’ death on the cross exemplifies a love which is sufficiently strong and divine to forgive sin and swallow up all evil-doing. Jesus disclosed to this world a higher quality of righteousness than justice — mere technical right and wrong. Divine love does not merely forgive wrongs; it absorbs and actually destroys them. The forgiveness of love utterly transcends the forgiveness of mercy. Mercy sets the guilt of evil-doing to one side; but love destroys forever the sin and all weakness resulting therefrom. Jesus brought a new method of living to Urantia. He taught us not to resist evil but to find through him a goodness which effectually destroys evil. The forgiveness of Jesus is not condonation; it is salvation from condemnation. Salvation does not slight wrongs; it makes them right. True love does not compromise nor condone hate; it destroys it. The love of Jesus is never satisfied with mere forgiveness. The Master’s love implies rehabilitation, eternal survival. It is altogether proper to speak of salvation as redemption if you mean this eternal rehabilitation.

(2018.2) 188:5.3 Jesus, by the power of his personal love for men, could break the hold of sin and evil. He thereby set men free to choose better ways of living. Jesus portrayed a deliverance from the past which in itself promised a triumph for the future. Forgiveness thus provided salvation. The beauty of divine love, once fully admitted to the human heart, forever destroys the charm of sin and the power of evil.

(2018.3) 188:5.4 The sufferings of Jesus were not confined to the crucifixion. In reality, Jesus of Nazareth spent upward of twenty-five years on the cross of a real and intense mortal existence. The real value of the cross consists in the fact that it was the supreme and final expression of his love, the completed revelation of his mercy.

(2018.4) 188:5.5 On millions of inhabited worlds, tens of trillions of evolving creatures who may have been tempted to give up the moral struggle and abandon the good fight of faith, have taken one more look at Jesus on the cross and then have forged on ahead, inspired by the sight of God’s laying down his incarnate life in devotion to the unselfish service of man.

(2018.5) 188:5.6 The triumph of the death on the cross is all summed up in the spirit of Jesus’ attitude toward those who assailed him. He made the cross an eternal symbol of the triumph of love over hate and the victory of truth over evil when he prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” That devotion of love was contagious throughout a vast universe; the disciples caught it from their Master. The very first teacher of his gospel who was called upon to lay down his life in this service, said, as they stoned him to death, “Lay not this sin to their charge.”

(2018.6) 188:5.7 The cross makes a supreme appeal to the best in man because it discloses one who was willing to lay down his life in the service of his fellow men. Greater love no man can have than this: that he would be willing to lay down his life for his friends — and Jesus had such a love that he was willing to lay down his life for his enemies, a love greater than any which had hitherto been known on earth.

(2019.1) 188:5.8 On other worlds, as well as on Urantia, this sublime spectacle of the death of the human Jesus on the cross of Golgotha has stirred the emotions of mortals, while it has aroused the highest devotion of the angels.

(2019.2) 188:5.9 The cross is that high symbol of sacred service, the devotion of one’s life to the welfare and salvation of one’s fellows. The cross is not the symbol of the sacrifice of the innocent Son of God in the place of guilty sinners and in order to appease the wrath of an offended God, but it does stand forever, on earth and throughout a vast universe, as a sacred symbol of the good bestowing themselves upon the evil and thereby saving them by this very devotion of love. The cross does stand as the token of the highest form of unselfish service, the supreme devotion of the full bestowal of a righteous life in the service of wholehearted ministry, even in death, the death of the cross. And the very sight of this great symbol of the bestowal life of Jesus truly inspires all of us to want to go and do likewise.

(2019.3) 188:5.10 When thinking men and women look upon Jesus as he offers up his life on the cross, they will hardly again permit themselves to complain at even the severest hardships of life, much less at petty harassments and their many purely fictitious grievances. His life was so glorious and his death so triumphant that we are all enticed to a willingness to share both. There is true drawing power in the whole bestowal of Michael, from the days of his youth to this overwhelming spectacle of his death on the cross.

(2019.4) 188:5.11 Make sure, then, that when you view the cross as a revelation of God, you do not look with the eyes of the primitive man nor with the viewpoint of the later barbarian, both of whom regarded God as a relentless Sovereign of stern justice and rigid law-enforcement. Rather, make sure that you see in the cross the final manifestation of the love and devotion of Jesus to his life mission of bestowal upon the mortal races of his vast universe. See in the death of the Son of Man the climax of the unfolding of the Father’s divine love for his sons of the mortal spheres. The cross thus portrays the devotion of willing affection and the bestowal of voluntary salvation upon those who are willing to receive such gifts and devotion. There was nothing in the cross which the Father required — only that which Jesus so willingly gave, and which he refused to avoid.

(2019.5) 188:5.12 If man cannot otherwise appreciate Jesus and understand the meaning of his bestowal on earth, he can at least comprehend the fellowship of his mortal sufferings. No man can ever fear that the Creator does not know the nature or extent of his temporal afflictions.

(2019.6) 188:5.13 We know that the death on the cross was not to effect man’s reconciliation to God but to stimulate man’s realization of the Father’s eternal love and his Son’s unending mercy, and to broadcast these universal truths to a whole universe.

Jesus taught salvation by faith.
Hogwash.

(This paragraph was added 16APR15 @ 1:47 AM, to better explain what I meant: ... by, "Hogwash," I mean Jesus did NOT teach that there could possibly be any salvation without His Blood. He prayed all night that 'this cup' would pass from Him, meaning His torturous death upon the cross. It was the hardest anyone has ever prayed. God willed for Him to die in our stead. without His Death we could have no life, no salvation and no part in eternity.)

He taught this:

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you."

You have NO LIFE in you! :duh:

Already covered in the previous post here. (first part on the blood-atonement concept, and rest on the 'kingdom of heaven').

Its not 'hogwash' that Jesus taught that salvation comes by faith, this is even emphasized by Paul in his gospel teaching, since the theme of 'faith' in God is pretty universal. It would amount to you saying that 'faith in God' is 'hogwash',..so this statement is unreasonable, as your over-emphasis on drinking Jesus blood appears to be a fixation of yours. Remember, all that 'flesh' and 'blood' stuff is SYMBOLIC.

That passage from John is ONLY found in John as well, nowhere else. The other synoptics do not support this 'cannabilistic' connotation of ingesting the flesh and blood of Jesus. I don't see why this keeps being emphasized, as what is more important is to have faith in God and do his will, just what Jesus taught...essentially. This stuff added about his Eucharistic sacrifice having some kind of 'atoning value' is theoretical, likely imposed later into the texts thru Paul's influence and other innovations of the 'atonement' concept.

Your fanciful idea about demons is also outlandish.

I would add that Jesus explains the symbolism of it in the same paragraph he makes the statement of eating his flesh and drinking his blood. He says the wine is the blood, and the bread is the body. He then says that it is a remembrance of the sacrifice of his body and the spilling of his blood for us. Correction.... for the life of the world.

We are indeed saved by faith. Faith is what leads us to understand the single most important substance in the universe: Jesus' Blood. Without That Blood we have no life. Without It I'd be as dead as you and Caino.
...your over-emphasis on drinking Jesus blood appears to be a fixation of yours.
Discounting It is the main focus of both hell and your posts.
Remember, all that 'flesh' and 'blood' stuff is SYMBOLIC.
I know. God honors our participation in His symbolic celebration by granting ACTUAL eternal life. That is worth celebrating.
That passage from John is ONLY found in John as well, nowhere else. The other synoptics do not support this 'cannabilistic' connotation of ingesting the flesh and blood of Jesus.
You're not God's editor or advisor. He chose what to put in His Word. It is Truth.
I don't see why this keeps being emphasized, as what is more important is to have faith in God and do his will, just what Jesus taught...essentially.
Because without the Blood, there is no life in you. Without His Blood you are prey for Satan. You cannot please God without Jesus' Blood.

More lies and misdirection.

checklist for those who wondered.......

checklist for those who wondered.......

We all know that the urantia UFO garbage denies what Jesus Christ did at the Cross and the perfect work He completed at the Cross.

First, no UFOs associated with the UB. You are still misrepresenting by false association. 'Bearing false witness' doesn't do too much to support your credibility.

Second, the UB clearly expounds upon the symbol of the cross, and what Jesus went thru as an ordeal of ending his earthly ministry in the flesh by dying on the cross. As Caino already shared, see the UB's explanation of the lesson of the cross here. Read the explanation carefully. The cross is a sacred symbol and tells much about Jesus. Other worlds in our local universe know our planet as the 'world of the cross', so you see...the 'cross' does have a special meaning. See here.

The Cross is the single most important event in human history because of the perfect and completed work of Salvation by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Again, the cross is a sacred symbol of Jesus giving his life, in service to God's love and holy will for us. According to the papers it would not be 'the single most important event in human history', since the bestowal(incarnation) of Jesus himself on this planet is the most significant event, while whatever happened during his 'bestowal' mission here was all included in his life of devotion and service to us his mortal children, his resurrection proving the triumph of the spirit and promise of immortality to all who choose eternal life.

So, the urantia UFO CULT isn't just a false religion - it's anti-Christ and anti-Christian.

2 strikes. See above. As to the second claim,....it is wholly Christ-glorifying, and Jesus-centered...totally. What you mean to say is...it is not a presentation that is 100% identical or agreeing to your 'version' of Christianity, the more conservative traditional-orthodox 'version'. If you read the OP and other posts of mine, the clear similarities and differences between UB theology and conservative Christian doctrine are shared in detail (see here).

It denies God's plan of Salvation - the ONLY way to be SAVED.

Not really. It expounds on salvation with its own terms, values and meanings,...which can be understood only by learning what those terms are.

I'm sure that the devil is quite happy with the urantia UFO CULT.

Again,...the UB has no association with UFO's and there does not exist an official 'cult' or 'church' formed or supported by the Urantia Foundation, the original publishers of the papers. What devotees do with the UB is up to them, just like devotees that use the Bible can do what they wish using that book, which may creating various cults or denominations. The fact is, there are more 'cults' and 'demonimations' built upon or around the 'Bible' than the UB.

The subject of who the 'devil' is, as satan or Lucifer is another wonderful study. As for the 'Luciferian Rebellion' ...the papers go into great detail here too. I don't think Lucifer or Satan is too happy about the UB, since it tells their story, and their demise.

Thank you.

I would add and reiterate however, that 'flesh' and 'blood' are still symbolic of what is a 'spiritual sharing, impartation or transmission' of the life-giving spirit or vital force that enlivens or quickens the soul. While Jesus used the illustration of his 'flesh' being the bread of life that gives life to the world, (as the manna of olden days gave life to the physical man, so the 'bread' of Jesus, the life-giving 'word', gives life to us 'spiritually). Jesus EXPLAINS himself clearly in John 6:60-63 below -

60 Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying; who can understand it?”

61 When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.”

We recall again, as per the papers teachings on the above, shared before, in confirmation of the above, that Jesus is clearly saying after all his metaphoric language, that it is only the SPIRIT that gives life....the FLESH profits nothing. The 'words' that he speaks....they are 'spirit' and 'life'. This is wholly in line with the paper's teaching on the subject, and rightly so.

The Eucharist is traditionally a sharing of fellowship, for remembrance and an act to engage and re-cognize 'spiritual communion'. This is all it is, and whatever tokens and meanings one can weave into the emblems, PLUS most importantly the actual spiritual communion one is to enter into, during the ritual.

We would again recall Jesus words here...."It is the Spirit who gives life".

Will conscious man is about 1,000,000 years old. This is an illustration of the evolution of the races.

Interesting chart there,....you know I've not delved too deeply into the teachings on 'race' or 'eugenics' in the UB, the different colour race catagories. I know this is a controversial subject for some, which could promote some kind of racism, if some racial lines are purported to have evolved along a higher level or complexity than others. Do you know of any other corroborations of the papers with scientific or anthropological studies that the UB sheds light on? My racial background is Caucasian and Polynesian.

The Love of God

(38.6) 2:5.1 “God is love”; therefore his only personal attitude towards the affairs of the universe is always a reaction of divine affection. The Father loves us sufficiently to bestow his life upon us. “He makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”

(39.1) 2:5.2 It is wrong to think of God as being coaxed into loving his children because of the sacrifices of his Sons or the intercession of his subordinate creatures, “for the Father himself loves you.” It is in response to this paternal affection that God sends the marvelous Adjusters to indwell the minds of men. God’s love is universal; “whosoever will may come.” He would “have all men be saved by coming into the knowledge of the truth.” He is “not willing that any should perish.”

(39.2) 2:5.3 The Creators are the very first to attempt to save man from the disastrous results of his foolish transgression of the divine laws. God’s love is by nature a fatherly affection; therefore does he sometimes “chasten us for our own profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.” Even during your fiery trials remember that “in all our afflictions he is afflicted with us.”

(39.3) 2:5.4 God is divinely kind to sinners. When rebels return to righteousness, they are mercifully received, “for our God will abundantly pardon.” “I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of God.”

(39.4) 2:5.5 After all, the greatest evidence of the goodness of God and the supreme reason for loving him is the indwelling gift of the Father — the Adjuster who so patiently awaits the hour when you both shall be eternally made one. Though you cannot find God by searching, if you will submit to the leading of the indwelling spirit, you will be unerringly guided, step by step, life by life, through universe upon universe, and age by age, until you finally stand in the presence of the Paradise personality of the Universal Father.

(39.5) 2:5.6 How unreasonable that you should not worship God because the limitations of human nature and the handicaps of your material creation make it impossible for you to see him. Between you and God there is a tremendous distance (physical space) to be traversed. There likewise exists a great gulf of spiritual differential which must be bridged; but notwithstanding all that physically and spiritually separates you from the Paradise personal presence of God, stop and ponder the solemn fact that God lives within you; he has in his own way already bridged the gulf. He has sent of himself, his spirit, to live in you and to toil with you as you pursue your eternal universe career.

(39.6) 2:5.7 I find it easy and pleasant to worship one who is so great and at the same time so affectionately devoted to the uplifting ministry of his lowly creatures. I naturally love one who is so powerful in creation and in the control thereof, and yet who is so perfect in goodness and so faithful in the loving-kindness which constantly overshadows us. I think I would love God just as much if he were not so great and powerful, as long as he is so good and merciful. We all love the Father more because of his nature than in recognition of his amazing attributes.

(39.7) 2:5.8 When I observe the Creator Sons and their subordinate administrators struggling so valiantly with the manifold difficulties of time inherent in the evolution of the universes of space, I discover that I bear these lesser rulers of the universes a great and profound affection. After all, I think we all, including the mortals of the realms, love the Universal Father and all other beings, divine or human, because we discern that these personalities truly love us. The experience of loving is very much a direct response to the experience of being loved. Knowing that God loves me, I should continue to love him supremely, even though he were divested of all his attributes of supremacy, ultimacy, and absoluteness.

(40.1) 2:5.9 The Father’s love follows us now and throughout the endless circle of the eternal ages. As you ponder the loving nature of God, there is only one reasonable and natural personality reaction thereto: You will increasingly love your Maker; you will yield to God an affection analogous to that given by a child to an earthly parent; for, as a father, a real father, a true father, loves his children, so the Universal Father loves and forever seeks the welfare of his created sons and daughters.

(40.2) 2:5.10 But the love of God is an intelligent and farseeing parental affection. The divine love functions in unified association with divine wisdom and all other infinite characteristics of the perfect nature of the Universal Father. God is love, but love is not God. The greatest manifestation of the divine love for mortal beings is observed in the bestowal of the Thought Adjusters, but your greatest revelation of the Father’s love is seen in the bestowal life of his Son Michael as he lived on earth the ideal spiritual life. It is the indwelling Adjuster who individualizes the love of God to each human soul.

(40.3) 2:5.11 At times I am almost pained to be compelled to portray the divine affection of the heavenly Father for his universe children by the employment of the human word symbol love. This term, even though it does connote man’s highest concept of the mortal relations of respect and devotion, is so frequently designative of so much of human relationship that is wholly ignoble and utterly unfit to be known by any word which is also used to indicate the matchless affection of the living God for his universe creatures! How unfortunate that I cannot make use of some supernal and exclusive term which would convey to the mind of man the true nature and exquisitely beautiful significance of the divine affection of the Paradise Father.

(40.4) 2:5.12 When man loses sight of the love of a personal God, the kingdom of God becomes merely the kingdom of good. Notwithstanding the infinite unity of the divine nature, love is the dominant characteristic of all God’s personal dealings with his creatures." UB 1955

~* Ignorance alone can never prevent survival; neither can confusional doubts nor fearful uncertainty. Only conscious resistance to the indwelling divine spirit’s leadings can prevent the survival of the evolving immortal soul. Therefore the chances of soul survival following mortal death may be made forever clear: All souls will survive provided they have a willingness to co-operate with and follow the guidance of their indwelling fragment of God. Before this can happen of course there must be acceptance and recognition of this fact of reality. You must also exhibit a desire to find God and to attain divine perfection, even though these desires may be but the first faint flickers of the primitive perception of that “true light which lights every man who comes into the world” ~UB 1955

You forgot to mention that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness for sin.

That's correct - regardless of what the urantia UFO cult garbage says. I give thanks every day that Jesus Christ died on the Cross and paid it all as a perfect sacrifice well-pleasing to God the Father. This is the foundation for the Gospel of the Grace of God and the only means of Salvation.
