John 15 (NLT)
1 I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener.
2 He cuts off EVERY BRANCH OF MINE that doesn’t produce fruit,
4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit
if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
5 Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them,
will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.
6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers.
Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.
7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you,
you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!
9 … Remain in my love.
10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love,
just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.
Jesus explains about remaining “in Christ”
● If you remain, He remains in you (v.4)
● If you remain, you will produce much fruit (v.5)
● If you remain (and you believe His words), your prayers will be granted (v.7)
● If you obey His commandments, you remain in His love (v.10)
Is remaining in His love the same as remaining in Him?
A parallel verse to John 15:10 above …
“To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne,
(just) as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” (Rev 3:21)
Jesus overcame sin, the world, the devil, and death.
The NT warns BACs to remain in the faith
Do NOT fall away from the faith … Luke 8:13, 2 Thessalonians 2:3, Hebrews 6:6
Do NOT fall from grace … Galatians 5:4, 2 Peter 3:17, Revelation 2:5
Do NOT draw back to perdition … Hebrews 10:39
etc.
There are many NT verses which warn BACs to endure in the faith
until the end of their lives so they will ultimately receive eternal life!
This enduring in the faith is about being faithful (obedient) to Jesus and His teachings.
Yes, salvation is a life-long process.
