Related question: how far of a view do people have on a clear day at the summit of, say, Mt. Everest?
All because of the update to TOLWe seem to have lost several posts!
There was a database error that kept happening the last couple of days whenever I'd post something. Then the site was down for maintenance and when it came back, the last couple of days worth of posts were gone.
Oh well!

Basically here:
Dave is convinced that the Bible says the Earth if flat. Since the Bible was written by God, and since Dave's understanding of the Bible is also given by God (or so it seems), this flat Earth idea is a religious belief. Thus it is impossible to prove otherwise to Dave.
He will ignore evidence. Claim everything and anything is a lie or a conspiracy. Refuse to even go look at a sunset. Pretend that mathematics is wrong- or that he "doesn't understand." Any and every excuse, because he knows the Earth is flat. God said so.
The rest of us have been wasting our time with facts. Dave has encouraged this by pretending to be reasonable about this topic. He will "consider the evidence." But he won't . He doesn't think of himself as dishonest, but he is.
A thought...
As long and as often well thought out as many of your posts tend to be, you might want to consider saving a copy of them before posting them.
No sense in allowing all that work to end up lost.
And every now and then, posts can end up lost, even when no real global tweekings are going on within TOL.
At the same time [MENTION=595]Knight[/MENTION], a heads up to TOL posters about a major tweeking of TOL coming up and when, might alert posters they might want to either hold off on posting and or save copies of their posts.

This is Chair's opinion of what Dave is doing.
I know Dave better than Chair does.
Dave believes there's good evidence for both flat earth and globe earth.
Dave is doing research on both views but is advocating for flat earth while others are advocates for globe earth so we can have a debate.
The arguments from both sides need to made and compared.
Let everyone decide for themselves which worldview makes sense.
Dave always makes arguments and rarely ever demeans those he is debating as Chair is doing in his post.

The FE / RE issue is similar to how, in Scripture, one often finds seeming arguments for both sides of a coin:
That the Spirit is only a power / is actually a Person;
That works are / are not required for salvation;
That the Lord is / is not God;
That there is / is not, a Rapture...
And so on.

Why does the sun seem to set and stay the same size?

Objects that are refracted are pushed downward and are magnified.
Here is a FE video that explains why the sun, like the pencil, "seems" to maintain its size at sunset even though its moving away from us.

So these two things (perspective and atmospheric magnification) always balance PERFECTLY under VARYING conditions to keep the sun the EXACT SAME SIZE all day long and YET you have ALSO claimed that the sun gets SMALLER as it sets (as in your other video).
So WHICH is it Dave?

So AGAIN, how can these VARYING conditions cause the sun to remain the EXACT SAME SIZE all day long? And why did you previously say that the sun DOES get smaller as the day progresses?
To be fair, "Air" (aka, our atmosphere, and even other gases) is treated as a fluid when it comes to physics and material sciences.

That's just not true and particularly with respect to the magnitude of the refraction of light.
It seems over water/oceans the amount of water at low atmosphere is grater than over dry land. Even the amount of water in the atmosphere can vary over water.
The time lapse video of the sun moving over earth showing it changes its size is shot over land.
Humidity is not constant over land or water.

I think you're confusing "liquids" with "fluids." All liquids are fluids, but not all fluids are liquids.
