Switzerland bans AstraZeneca vaccine

Banned
What Switzerland has said is lack of data equals no vaccine approval. Once again a country is banning a vaccine because of the lack of information given out by big pharma.

Again: no "ban". They're waiting for more data. In the meantime they are using other vaccines. Yawn.

Is the use of AZ prohibited, legally?
Yes
prohibit: to prevent from doing something
Has AZ been prevented from being used?
Yes
Here is how "ban" is usually used:
"to prevent from doing something"
Has AZ been prevented from being used?
Yes
This vaccine hasn't been approved yet.
And so it can't be used, legally.
That isn't "banning" it.
It is by YOUR definition
Anyhow- they did approve two other vaccines.
Right, they weren't banned.

By this kind of thinking, all these vaccines were 'banned' before they were approved. And every medication is 'banned' before they were approved.

The fact remains that the Swiss have approved two vaccines, and delayed approval of a third, pending more data. So what?

Generally speaking, all medicines are banned until they are approved. A good example is the drug metaformin which was not approved for use in the U.S. until 1994 which is insane considering how important it was in the U.S. for treating diabetes. Metaformin was banned in the U.S. for decades because no drug company wanted to pay for the insane costs for testing a new drug.

Sometimes government ban drugs for political and bureaucratic reasons - not for public safety reasons.
