I don't think God wants them to build another temple. Never the less he knows that they are going to build the third temple and await the one they think is the true Messiah(their wrong in doing this).
Never the less as it seems that for 2000 years both they and many Christians saw that there was this in the scripture(their interpretation) so they both pushed to bring this about,i.e. a restored nation of Israel and the third temple.
I think Jesus meant when he said "I come in my fathers name and you receive me not,if another come in his own name him you will receive" that since they did not recognize him(Jesus) as the king/Messiah then they would go on searching for one. He said many would come and say they were the Messiah(they fell for all of them one after another) but the one Jesus referred to that would come in his own name is the one who will come last i.e."man of sin",false Messiah and the Jews will receive him as the fulfillment of the prophecies(since they think Jesus did not). Caesar/Rome was one of the heads(6th),,,but the one that rises/is rising is the eight and of the seven. It's the one who received the deadly wound in ad70.

For a new temple to adhere to the law of Moses, a perfect red heifer without spot would have to be sacrificed for the water of cleansing used in the new temple.
Without the perfect red heifer, it's impossible for a third temple.
HINT:
Christ Jesus was perfect, without blemish, and was sacrificed outside the camp (Num 19:3)
