Jesus is reported to have quoted Hosea a few times, you know. Mercy before Sacrifice!

I think you've got that wrong.....
Jesus had different ideas, surely?
Matthew:{9:13} But go ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not
sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

My answer has to come from the Baptist and Jesus........ Look it up in the bible !

Mark {1:4} John did baptize in the wilderness, and
preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

Matthew {9:12} But when
Jesus heard [that,] he said unto them, They that be whole
need not a physician, but they that are sick. {9:13} But go
ye and learn what [that] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not
sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners
to repentance.

Matthew {12:6} But I say unto you, That in this
place is [one] greater than the temple. {12:7} But if ye had
known what [this] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not
sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

Mark {12:32} And the
scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth:
for there is one God; and there is none other but he: {12:33}
And to love him with all the heart, and with all the
understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the
strength, and to love [his] neighbour as himself, is more
than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. {12:34} And
when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto
him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God.

John {2:14} And found in the temple those
that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of
money sitting: {2:15} And when he had made a scourge of
small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the
sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money,
and overthrew the tables; {2:16} And said unto them that
sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s
house an house of merchandise.
