[Pope visits Auschwitz, begs God to forgive "so much cruelty" by Frances D'Emilio, Vanessa Gera AP] :eek:linger: "The Argentine-born pontiff made an early morning pilgrimage to the place where Adolf Hitler's forces killed more than 1 million people, most of them Jews, during World War II.

Francis entered the camp on foot, walking slowly in his white robes beneath the notorious gate at Auschwitz that bears the cynical words "Arbeit Macht Frei (Work sets you free)."

Among the 11 survivors he met briefly was a woman in her mid-90s who helped deliver babies born to Auschwitz women; another, 101, played the violin in an orchestra the death camp.

Francis moved on to nearby Birkenau, a sprawling complex where people were murdered in factory-like fashion in its gas chambers..." Full text: Pope visits Auschwitz, begs God to forgive "so much cruelty" 2 Co 2:11, 11:14

The Catholic Church hid Jews in the Vatican during the Holocaust. Hitler himself came to the Pope as they laid beneath the floor- whatever conspiracy people think of Adolf and the Church simply isn't true- the Roman church had no choice but to be otherwise indifferent during the Nazi reign.

They feel a bit of a sting from that indifference, however, which is why they are doing what they are doing now.

The Pope should apologize for the mass murder of non-Catholics for centuries, outlawing the Bible, and enabling child molestation to this day.

Meh.

I talk a lot of stuff about that sometimes, but in truth they were like the Pharisees- it won't all of them, or even the majority.

The thing a person should understand about those times is that Christianity at large had no qualms with killing heretics anymore than Islam does today. They themselves wouldn't do it, but had no beef with those that did.

They figured they were doomed anyway, so what was the sin in taking them out

Daniel1769 is obviously a moron. Outlawing the Bible? LOL! That's rich.
He's doing what most anti-Catholics do, which is simply to parrot what they've been told by their preferred recently-invented, man-made non-Catholic sect. It's all they know, since they haven't actually done the necessary homework for themselves, and likely never will. Thinking for oneself is apparently just too much work.

:AMR:

The Catholic Church was careful about the Scriptures because people would run off with their own doctrines. The Catholic Church has never 'enabled' child abuse and everyone basically mass murdered others in those times.

It was a fact of life during those times that people were illiterate. They could figure out a handful of verses and start a war over it.

And that's exactly what happened, but incidentally the Reformation was different- it was both post enlightenment and feudal.
