The fact remains as to how can the federal government staff an immigration office in New York City where only 51% of the population are English speakers with the next 25% speaking Spanish?

Are 51% of the immigrant population coming from the UK?

I would assume that those speaking Spanish in New York City don't represent some obscure % of the population, and that staffing in an immigration office should have to rely on the language skills of a 19 year old intern as their token interpreter!

this one didn't pass the sniff test, and it didn't take much digging:

After enrolling at Boston University on a scholarship from Intel, Ocasio-Cortez found herself working in the foreign affairs and immigration office of Sen. Ted Kennedy from early 2008 until his death in 2009.

Is your opinion that 49% of New Yorkers are unable to speak English because they use a different language at home?

You do know that understanding English is part of the naturalization process, right?

Volume 12 – Citizenship & Naturalization, Part E – English and Civics Testing and Exceptions

A. Purpose
In general, a naturalization applicant must demonstrate an understanding of the English language, including an ability to read, write, and speak words in ordinary usage. An applicant must also demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of the history and principles and form of government of the United States (civics). These are the English and civics requirements for naturalization.

How many of them can't speak English well?
so, not the federal immigration office in NYC

Ted Kennedy's office in Boston

Okay, lets find out how many Boston residents can't speak English well.

46,000 Boston residents speak English less than well out of 592,000 (Using 2000 population data)
That means that only 7.77% of Boston residents speak English less than well.

and i'm sure there's a federal immigration office in boston that's fully staffed

sounds to me like AOC's "office" in ted kennedy's office was a desk in the corner

what kind of jobs are we talking about? Waitressing? Bartending?

you mean the kind of geeks that get degrees in economics and international relations at a university in the outside community of boston?
Ocasio-Cortez was bartending/waitressing full time, had less than 1% the campaign budget and yet still managed to defeat the 10-term incumbent Joe Crowley's by 15% in the Democratic Primary!

Joe Crowley and the Democratic "establishment" underestimated Ocasio-Cortez - now Republicans and conservatives are making the same mistake!

If you take the time to read about her life, Ocasio-Cortez has had to overcome a "hard-scrabble" life in her 29 years, she's "tough as nails" and she could care less about your disapproval - AOC could be the next "Nancy Pelosi" in the making and Trump supporters know that she made him "blink" first over the 35 day shutdown!

well, no - she lived a very comfortable Westchester lifestyle most of her life, until her father died

Rush Limbaugh was dying of laughter yesterday because Cortez said that the millions in tax breaks can now be used for teachers and schools, as if it were actually real money available to be used. They were tax "breaks". The money does not actually exist. All she did was lose jobs for her state. Think about that. A representative from New York, brand new to the job, purposely threw away thousands of jobs for her state and she thinks she did a good thing.

i'd like to think that her constituency will recognize her for the mistake she is

but they're democrats, so i don't hold out a lot of hope

if you listen to the Carolyn Maloney interview (0:48), the Amazon deal included grants/gifts, etc from Amazon to local schools to develop tech programs for neighborhood kids
