I keep a quart jar full of honey, lemon, and ginger in my pantry. Every morning, I put two tablespoonsful in a cup of hot water and drink it. I haven't had a bad cold this year, yet. I did get a small case of the flu. But, that's it.

If you get cold symptoms, you could try scientifically unverified nonsense, or you could take nyquil and actually treat the symptoms. Me? I suggest nyquil (generic or namebrand, it doesn't matter), maximum strength, cold and flu. :p

Emergen-c is a good brand in my opinion and you can find it in Wal-Mart. It works like your remedy only has a gram of vit C in every packet. I loved it as a teen. It soothed my stomach very effectively.

.... and an ounce or two of Southern Comfort.

And if that doesn't work, just an ounce or two or sixteen more so you won't care that you have a cold.

If you try the emergen-c, let me know how it works. These days I just make a homemade version using non-gmo citric acid and bicarbonates along with some other helpful ingredients, to get a similar effect, but as a result, it's been quite a few years since I've had it on my shelf.

I am using Alka-Seltzer Plus (the kind that dissolves in water).

What works for you?

The very few times I've had cold symptoms in the last twenty years, it's been mild, and I take nothing and usually recovered in a day or two.

Does the Alka-Seltzer work well for you?

Whenever I start to get a sore throat, I go get a bottle of really heavy duty mineral water, like the European stuff. I don't know why but it is very soothing (for awhile) to the sorest throat. Gerolsteiner is tops but most will do the trick.

Going to try Knight's ear trick next time I feel a cold coming on

Get a Neilmed squeeze bottle, some Alkalol and distilled water from a drug store. When you get both sides of your nose opened a little, mix the stuff and flush your lower sinuses. You'll be amazed at how much crud it gets out vs saline alone. And the menthol and eucalyptus in the Alkalol opens you right up and helps you breathe.

Sounds like a pleasant concoction; I DO buy locally farmed honey. I also cook with crystallized ginger.

Thanks, woman, for the idea!

:)
