I have found that it does.

Not just how he treats them, but how emotionally open he is with them.
The same for any platonic female friends he has.

I'm much closer emotionally with my mother than my father (in part because my mom doesn't get preachy and broken-record-ish), and as a result I'm much more open to expressing emotion in front of my wife and giving and receiving support.

The other side of the gender equation is also true.
The kind of relationship a woman has with her father will do much to determine what kind of romantic relationships she can have with men.
In my wife's case, she looked for someone who wouldn't respond to any and all expressions of emotion with "quit being a wimp!"

In most cases, I would agree with that. My nephew's case is different. He's highly respectful to all women but his mother. My sister abused him and he won't have anything to do with her now. But, he'll bend over backwards for me and my daughter.

Yes, and watch the boys closely, too; they grow up to be those men.
