God is our refuge and our strength
In very early transcripts of the NT [pre St Jerome] in the parable of the wise and foolish virgins it says the cry went up at midnight "Behold the Bridegroom cometh
and His bride" now we know who the bride is, the church of all the ages...so then who are the wise virgins who gain admittance to the feast?
When St Jerome espied the bride it threw him into a quandary somewhat for he had identified the wise virgins as the church, he knew well that there could not be 2 churches i.e. the bride and the wise virgins.
So he simply omitted the bride.
The parable still works on a level but it is not a true representation of the last judgement. Now Jerome omitted the bride from his translation and all translators follow him but the brie is still there, made conspicuous by her omission.
The church cannot be both the bride AND the bridal attendants.
