But he did not yet know right from wrong so how was he to know he was doing wrong.
You really think that Adam didn't know that disobeying God's command was wrong?
Which ignores the whole later argument of why does that "sin" come down to me.
God does not hold Adams sin against you. God will justly hold you accountable for your own sin.

I thought we all had original sin from Adam or is that my Catholic school education rearing its head?

There was nothing wrong with building buildings... what was wrong was man's purpose for this building. It was to be tall and visible so they could easily stay in contact and not totally spread away from each other as God had directed. God decided the way to stop their plan was to confuse their language and it also insured that the people would more permanently separate from one another. What humanity has trouble getting is that their Creator is the one in charge of his creation. With our gift of freewill and the knowledge of good AND EVIL... we are bent on going against the will of our LORD.

In the OT Covenant God often used fear and correction to straighten out things.

In the NT Covenant with Christ God has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit in us to teach us and hold us unto our manifestation in the kingdom of our Lord.

Evil is allowed to co-exist among the "saved" ... the tares among the wheat so to speak ... and all receive seed time and harvest time, sun and rain, blessings and consequences in this life. IOW ... humanity is shown grace and mercy until our Lord returns.

God is out among the nations to save all humanity who will honor him for who he is and what he has done and for his mercy.

Why did he want to spread us all out around the world? I can only guess. To make us more eternally interesting with our different cultures in heaven; encourage competition and creativity; to slow down Satan's plan to fulfill his goal for a one-world-government and slow that process so that more children could be born and our Lord's kingdom would grow.

I happen to think our Lord want a huge family of brothers and sisters with him one day. I'm praying all my loved ones make it there. God's plans are perfect ... Satan's and man's not so much so.
