This thread is proof of that. The current high price of gas is the main talking point of the Republicans going into the 2022 midterm elections. They can't afford to have the price of gas go down between now and then. If it does, Republicans will be forced to run on their other main vote-getter--forcing 10-year-old rape victims to carry their pregnancies to term.

There's a lot of info out there about how corporations have taken advantage of the situation by blaming inflation for keeping their prices higher than they needed to be, while raking in record profits. I'd point out too that trying to predict a pandemic has been a thankless job for many.

The question is, why have gas prices gone up $3/gallon over the past couple of years?

Here are some causes for the spike in gas prices and inflation I have heard from questionable sources:

It is Putin's fault
It is the oil companies' fault
It is the fault of the gas station owners
It is Trump's fault
It is supply and demand
It is the greed of the rich and the racist white man
And so forth.

I can only guess what democrats must be thinking, if they think at all, or planning , if they plan at all, about fixing the problem which developed rapidly after Biden moved into the WH.

Here must be some of the logical cures being floated among those who think the above causes are destroying the poor and struggling wage earner in America:

Bomb Russia into submission
Have the government take over the oil companies like Chavez did in Venezuela
Establish and enforce price and profit caps on gas stations
Send Trump to prison
Take over the free market and establish a government-controlled market system like communism
Rob the rich and give their wealth to the down and out who cannot or will not work for one reason or another
Force the white man to pay the black and poor reparations due them for slavery of hundreds of years ago.

Low interest rates caused low gas prices? So why not keep interest rates low if that will give massive relief to the poor? Why raise interest rates if that will increase heavy burdens on the poor with high gas prices, high food costs, huge increases in the cost of living, and a huge decrease in access to borrowing at the bank?
