Good Teachers of the Law or Grace

This originally appeared as an email delivered on

One reason there are so many pulpits preaching the law is that they follow the teaching of Jesus Christ in the red letter books.

Matthew-John record the ministry of Jesus to Israel under the law. Jesus was born under the law, walked sinlessly according to the law, and taught the law perfectly (Matt 5:17).

He brought light to their misunderstandings, exposed their traditions, and identified the most important lessons of the law.

Jesus was the best teacher of the law (Rom 15:8). Christians who follow his ministry to Israel learn to be good teachers of the law. They can expose self-righteous hypocrisy, traditions of men, and preach the need for walking in love, mercy, and faith

Making His ministry to Israel the pattern for the pulpit will create good law teachers, but it will not communicate the gospel of the grace of God.

No one is saved today under the law nor by walking according to a perfect understanding of the law.

Being a good teacher of the law is not communicating the gospel of the grace of God.

A good teacher of the law was not required to understand the cross (Luke 18:31-34). Preaching grace requires understanding the glory of Christ’s cross. This grace from God was not revealed until later after his resurrection.

The law can help men see their need for the Saviour, but it cannot save. The gospel of grace is preaching the cross of Christ unto salvation without the law (1 Cor 1:18).

Salvation by the cross was not revealed in our Lord’s ministry to Israel under the law, but now the simplest message of grace excels the greatest teaching of the law.

“I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.” – Galatians 2:21
If we are to be proper ministers of Christ today, we must beware of “desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm” (1 Tim 1:6-7).

Christ is now working to create faithful teachers of his grace, not the law. This is not patterned after His ministry to Israel, but after His ministry through Paul, the apostle of grace.

For better understanding,

Why do you have evil imaginations of your heart?
As God told Noah before and after the flood the the imaginations of the heart are evil continuously. That is why God gave Mose's the Commandments and the law to Israel. I need them written on my heart to point out the evil imaginations!

So you think that you're a pre-flood human?

Please QUOTE the scripture so that we can see the CONTEXT!
That is why God gave Mose's the Commandments and the law to Israel.
Perhaps, but it didn't fix their problem.
I need them written on my heart to point out the evil imaginations!
So you don't have the spirit of Christ to change your heart?

If you are still having "evil imaginations".... you need to GET SAVED!

Agree, for without the Law of Moses, mankind would not know the differences between good and evil. "And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." (Gen 6.5). It is what the New Covenant (justification) does. "And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them." (Eze 36:27) Thanks for your insight.

Who is the YOU in Ezekiel 36? (Hint: the nation of Israel)

Ezek 36:21-36 (AKJV/PCE)
(36:21) ¶ But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went. (36:22) Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not [this] for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. (36:23) And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I [am] the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. (36:24) For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. (36:25) ¶ Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. (36:26) A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. (36:27) And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do [them]. (36:28) And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. (36:29) I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you. (36:30) And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen. (36:31) Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that [were] not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. (36:32) Not for your sakes do I [this], saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel. (36:33) Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause [you] to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded. (36:34) And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. (36:35) And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities [are become] fenced, [and] are inhabited. (36:36) Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined [places, and] plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken [it], and I will do [it].

Your saying the New Covenant was and is for Israel only.
That's what scripture says, repeatedly!
Jer 31:31-34 (AKJV/PCE)
(31:31) ¶ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: (31:32) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day [that] I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: (31:33) But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. (31:34) And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

It doesn't get any clearer than that. It's also reiterated nearly 100% in Hebrews 8.

Heb 8:8-12 (AKJV/PCE)
(8:8) For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: (8:9) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. (8:10) For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: (8:11) And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. (8:12) For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Rem Paul was preaching to the Jews first and then the Gentiles, always in this order. Since the Gentiles, the saints of the church (body and Bride of Jesus Christ) share the inheritance of Israel including all the unconditional convenants God gave to Israel.

P.S. While it is disputed widely, there are too many signs of Paul in Hebrews to discount him being the writer of this book. Rem. GOD is the Author....

So your first response is to IGNORE what I posted and go off on another one of your tangents.

Not when God explicitly says otherwise!

Had to go back and find what you are speaking of..."Who is the YOU in Ezekiel 36? (Hint: the nation of Israel)".

You are right and wrong. the 'YOU' you speak of is of course Israel. Do we throw away the whole OT after Chapter 12 because it is of and to Israel?

Can God's word be like this forum where I may try to answer your questions directly to you but also mean the answers for the others on the forum as well?

Not when God explicitly says otherwise!
Then provide the scripture that tells us different?
Then who was preaching the words of this book to the Hebrew Church?

No, I'm just right.

No, I did not suggest (based upon your FALSE accusation) that we should throw way any of the Bible. But we must accept it ALL AS IT IS.

Dumb attempted analogy.

I already showed it to you. You don't believe the scripture... not my fault.

The correct answer is "we don't know, but we know that it was not Paul".

The correct answer is "we don't know, but we know that it was not Paul".
The bottom line is that the words preached were those or Jesus Christ and he was preaching "The Just shall live by Faith" , strange to be preaching to the Jews in this way. the same way Paul would do it as He did in other epistles.

I take you off of ignore long enough to read one single post! ONE POST!!

I have proven to you that Paul cannot have been the author of Hebrews more than once with evidence that you have NEVER even attempted to counter.

You are simply dishonest. You couldn't care less about the truth. I can't imagine what you do care about and would rather not find out.

I'll never understand what possible profit people like you get out of being here. I certainly won't contribute to whatever delusions you have of being of any use whatsoever.
