I figure it is important that people actually understand the beliefs of the various founding fathers as they played a role in the shaping of our nation's history. Such as understanding Jefferson's gradual move from a more orthodox Christianity during the time when wrote the Declaration of Independence (while still greatly under the influence of his mentor Payton Randolf) to the Unitarian/Deistic beliefs that he held by the time of his presidency is a good thing.
However, I wasn't aware he was commonly held up as a paragon of Christianity, as none of this information is new or radical.
