The issue to me is - what was the real insurrection in the last year? Was it a goofy stunt at the Capitol building by a few guys wearing funny hats? Or was it the months long burning of cities across the country with the complicity of the democrats?

Betcha I wouldn't have to look very hard to find similar or harsher language from the democrats over the last 4 years against Trump
BLM/Antifa violence was certainly much worse in terms of lives lost and properties destroyed, and yes, many Democrats turned a blind eye to it, made excuses, etc. That doesn't justify what happened at the Capitol on Jan 6, because that was also an assault on our democracy. We simply can't allow mobs of lunatics from the left or the right to invade our nation's Capitol, White House, governor's offices, etc. That's just insanity, regardless of who does it. And it is insanity to try to whitewash it. I thought conservatives were supposed to be the ones who believed in decency, morality, rule of law, etc,.

Sure. Republicans could spend private money and do the government's job to conduct an unbiased investigation but, as is found in so many cases, there is no point if the corrupt government refuses to charge the guilty parties and insists on filing charges against the innocent instead.
Morons called for the murder of Mike Pence, just as morons called for the murder of Donald Trump and assaults on republicans in the Trump administration. But it is even more moronic to impeach Trump because some morons called for the murder of Mike Pence.
If you watch the banned videos taken at the scene during the protest you will find dozens of good American patriots attempting to stop the mixed mob of left-wing and right-wing rioters from advocating and doing violence.
"Blow up the White House!" Madonna yells through a megaphone to cheering, Trump-hating, brainless mobs of leftists.
Even though the protesters at the Jan 6 protest did not kill anyone and did not set the place on fire, the leftist mob still blames conservatives and republicans because, they say, right-wing violence is doing more damage to this country than all instances of leftist and black violence combined. But don't bring up facts and figures because, they say, those are just distractions.
Leftists don't usually understand rationale or logic.
The left claims the protest at the Capitol was worse because it showed that right-wingers can also protest, invading spaces normal people think should not be invaded, should not be looted, and should not be burned to the ground.
There is nothing more offensive to a high democrat politician than having voters challenge political corruption like voter fraud. To leftist democrat fascists, such protests are acts of treason, sedition, and war.

1. 6000 people die after receiving a covid vaccine
2. Therefore, the covid vaccine caused these deaths.
Let me try that logic.
1. one million people who died in 2020 had worn sunglasses sometime in 2020.
2. Therefore, wearing sunglasses caused these deaths.
