Whenever humans are told to repent, it is always about our sins.
Study out how the word "repent" is used in the OT.
Can you do that much, are or you going to allow pride to once more decide who you are going to believe - yourself; or the Scripture?

If a person wants to be saved, then they must repent.
You have to obey and it something you should want to do.
You cannot be born again and receive the Holy Spirit unless you repent of your sins.

In an attempt to understand the biblical order of salvation, I sometimes get too rigid in how it is accomplished by God.
We receive many blessings in salvation, and one of them is the gift of repentance from the Holy Spirit.
