Clerk won't give gay couple marriage license

many here already support same sex marriage
so
do you really care what they think?

the issue here is religious freedom
No it isn't. The issue would be rather she has a right to deny others the operation of law because of her religious conviction. And the answer to that is no.

She can't deny black people medical treatment, even if she really, really believes they suffer justly under the mark of Cain. She can't deny Jews the right to live in her neighborhood, even if she really believes they're Christ killers and God's judgment follows them. And she can't deny homosexuals that same operation of law, no matter what she believes about them.

Rather, I responded to my rhetorical question with the obvious answers it pointed to.
While failing to address the points that made those answers superficial and without much point.

A helpful hint - you're not expected to respond to rhetorical questions.
So just a burial detail then for a toothless bit of rhetoric. Okay. You're entitled. And I'm entitled to point it out.

Her job is to execute lawful directives aimed at her office. If she can't do that in good conscience then she should resign.

Of course, in the past that would have left positions of government filled with people who were comfortable with supporting racism, in "good" conscience.

And that will, today, leave positions of government filled with people who are comfortable with supporting perversion, in "good" conscience.

That's one way of making sure someone agrees with you ...
Well, at least he's found a likened mind. . .I wonder what's taking chrys and Eeset so long to start skipping in place?

I do expect chrys is right, that this won't be the last time someone will root themselves in the doorway of the law. We had a famous example of it in Alabama. This one will end similarly.

I thank God and our Constitution for the separation of Church and State in our beloved country.
This guarantees me the right to freely choose and practice the religion of my choice.
The law of the land can be changed. We may work for the changes that matter to us. If we choose to disobey the law "for whatever reason", we are bound to suffer the consequences.
I believe it is utterly contemptible that this issue was pressed to the extreme of jailing this woman. But, she made a choice and by making that choice she is becoming a powerful witness to what many of us believe.

Of course, in the past that would have left positions of government filled with people who were comfortable with supporting racism, in "good" conscience.
The meaningful impact of that being not how they felt, but the denial of right.

And that will, today, leave positions of government filled with people who are comfortable with supporting perversion, in "good" conscience.
The meaningful impact of that being not how they feel, but the facilitation of right.

And that's why your parallel remains only superficially relevant. They're opposing creatures in application.

Mrs. Davis is standing up for what's right.

God bless her.

The US government is standing up for what's wrong.

Damn them to hell.

Wow - you're really really persistent in ignoring the obvious point I'm making.

Or perhaps just unable to understand it.

Or perhaps you're just overjoyed at the thought of having government positions filled with people who will be comfortable supporting perversion, whether it's race based or behavior based.

I don't believe she should have gone to jail either ... however, no employee should be allowed to continue in a job in which they refuse to perform *their* required duties.

Couldn't agree more.

Sounds reasonable.

Here's my problem...when the law becomes an instrument of a particular faith it fails its duty to protect the actual right to faith, becomes then no friend to religious belief, but instead is an instrument of the mob, who today may feel compelled to reject an exercise of right by those whose exercise will not encumber them in any meaningful sense beyond their conscience and which tomorrow may strip the rest of us of our rights should the scales tip.

She was, apparently, elected to the job.

Shouldn't those who put her in the job be the ones to say whether or not she's performing it to their satisfaction?

Are you too blind to recognize that the scales have already tipped to favor the immoral?

She was, apparently, elected to the job.

Then she should *perform* THE job ... ALL the duties. However, on the bright side, she has plenty of time to utilize the computer at her local library while searching for another job. :)

What does so-called race (Ac 17:26) have to do with sexual crime (heterosexual [Lev. 20:10–12]/homosexual [Lev. 20:10,13])? :dizzy:

denying others their rights based on race is a perversion of morality

accepting homosexuals as "normal" is a perversion of morality
