Many today in organized religion, professing christianity believe that the Church, the Body of Christ did not begin until the New Testament times, perhaps after Pentecost. That is a mistake, the Church of Christ, His Body can be traced back to Genesis, particularly Gen 4 25
And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. 26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
The men who called upon the Name of the Lord I believe is the Church of Christ, they who had been faith in the coming seed of the woman, who is the Christ /Messiah who would ultimately take away the sin of the World Jn 1:29. He would bruise the head of the serpent via His victorious death !
This distinctive quality of calling upon the Name of the Lord would Identify them, they had been given Faith by the New Birth.
Lets look at the peole who had been given this faith and quality Abraham Gen 12 7-8
And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.
And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.
Note: The Seed of Abraham is the Church Gal 3 29
Gen 26 25 Issac
And he builded an altar there, and called upon the name of the Lord, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac’s servants digged a well.
This trait carried over into the NT by the Church of God 1 Cor 1:1-3
Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother
unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Rom 10 13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Acts 2 21
and it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved
All who belong to the Church Christ gave Himself for will be caused sooner or later to " Call upon the Name of the Lord" evidencing they are saved or have been saved !
