Yes, this can occur and does occur in many lives. Genuine salvation can be counterfeited; deceiving both the pretender and all those around him. See Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10:26-29
Then from the believer's perspective, he was: saved, lost, repented, saved, lost, repented, saved, lost, repented...
This cycle, other than semantic differences, is identical to Catholic belief.
Catholics are saved when baptized, lost when committing mortal sin, repent, and saved again. Same cycle.
Of course, from God's perspective, the believer was either saved or damned all along, right? He was destined to be one or the other, and of course God knew what the result would be.
