If ever there was a sign that things are rapidly changing in the US...

Idaho Gov. C. L. "Butch" Otter vetoes school Bible bill

BOISE, Idaho - Idaho Gov. C. L. "Butch" Otter vetoed legislation Tuesday that would have expressly permitted the use of the Bible in public school instruction, calling the measure unconstitutional.

"I have deep respect and appreciation for the Bible as religious doctrine as well as a piece of historic literature," Otter wrote in a letter accompanying the veto. "However, allowing S1342 to become law is a direct contravention to the Idaho Constitution and it could result for the loss of funding and costly litigation for Idaho public schools."

Ten or fifteen years ago I never would have predicted that such a bill would be vetoed by a Republican Governor....in Idaho, a deeply red state that is fairly religious.

Amazing!! :thumb:

All of these recent "holier-than-thou" religious bills being touted by republicans are going to be flushed by the courts, anyway. At least this guy is honest enough to say so, and to save the taxpayers a lot of wasted time and money flushing them out of the system.

Very true. In the not-so-distant past, such a bill would have been eagerly signed with great ceremony, and all the subsequent litigation would have been spun as further evidence of the "war on Christianity" or something similar.

Now in 2016 America, a Republican governor in a deep red state vetoes it, basically saying "It's not worth it".

All I can say is....WOW!

Well, it's hard to be "holier-than-thou" when you're voting for Trump. They have no integrity or credibility left, anymore. They've become a bad/sad joke, politically.

This seems like a stupid bill and a good decision by the Gov to veto it instead of risking unnecessary litigation.
From the article:
Idaho public school students are already allowed to reference the Bible and other religious texts in their studies, but the rejected legislation specifically mentions the Bible, stating the book could be used for reference purposes in subjects such as literature, history, music and world geography.

Yes, we get it, Jose Fly. You apparently despise "Christianity" and conservatives" and want it to go away. :chuckle:

Do you think that it is a good thing that children will not get any moral instructions from the bible?

Here is a short list of modern day Atheist leaders.

Adolf Hitler acknowledged that he abhorred organized religion. There is evidence that he engaged in “nazi mysticism” or occultism. Adolf Hitler was raised a Catholic, he became a illuminist, and while the dictator of Germany he became an Atheist.

Joseph Stalin (Russian Dictator)
Mao ZeDong (Chinese dictator)
Pol Pot (Cambodian dictator)
Slobodan Milosevic (Serbian Dictator)
Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (Russian dictator)
Benito Mussolini (Italian dictator)
Friedrich Nietzsche (Philosopher)
Napoleon Bonaparte: He claimed that “all religions have been made by men”

Kim Jong Il: Atheist, although in North Korea he and his father are deified. A strange twist.

Jim Jones: Jim Jones was quoted as saying he used his church to bring people to atheism.

Tito (Yugoslavia 1945-1987)
Suharto (Communists 1967-66)
Ante Pavelic (Croatia 1941-45)
Ho Chi Min (Vietnam 1953-56)

What do these Atheist share in common? All of the Atheist in the list are infamous killers. The worlds greatest murderers may have never killed anyone personally, but those who followed them did their bidding. And that is what Atheism has taught us.

Good thing there are no modern day examples of people who believe in various gods doing horrible things.

Oh wait.....

Because not doing so is the fallacy of special pleading.

spe·cial plead·ing
noun
noun: special pleading

An argument in which the speaker deliberately ignores aspects that are unfavorable to their point of view. Appeals to give a particular interest group special treatment.

Our God is a living being whom is not made of sticks and stones, and is not the product of the imagination. There is no (REAL) relationship between the real and imagined.

So your response is "The horrible things done by people who believe in other gods don't count because their gods aren't real, and ours is".

IOW, a great example of the fallacy of special pleading. Well done.
